THIS WAS NOT MY FAULT!! One of a kind! None like it anywhere! 1979 Avanti II – 2 Door Sport Coupe You’re bidding on a very rare car indeed. Only 142 Avanti’s were built in 1979. No other Avanti has these great custom body modifications. One previous owner - bought the car from the factory. Factory invoices, manuals, and records are available. 91,319 original miles on the car. Chevy 350 V-8 – for easy servicing or repairs GM Turbo 400 Automatic Transmission Air Conditioning All Leather Interior (See note below) Power Moon Roof – does not leak, even in a car wash Power steering Power windows Power door locks Tilt Steering Wheel Cruise Control 8-Track Tape Player (original) w/ power antenna Power trunk latch Fully carpeted trunk The following have only 600 miles on them: Brand new Turner Brake Kit Brand new Quick Steer Steering arms Brand new tires – 15” on the front and 18” on the rear Brand new custom wheels Brand new paint – only driven 30 miles since the car was painted New body colored mirrors Can be power mirrors, but are not yet wired to a switch New fog/driving lights New custom grille New undercoating, and refreshed frame paint after surface rust was sanded off Cleaned and sealed fuel tank – using POR-15 rust proofing Solid torque boxes/”hog troughs” – actually reinforced by the new ground-effect side skirts All guages work except the clock This is a solid car that runs and drives well. It shifts as it should with no evidence of slippage in the transmission. I bought the car in Indiana and drove it 1700 miles home without doing anything to the car. It ran great. With the new Turner Brake Kit on the front wheels the car stops extremely well and very straight. Having said that, please remember this is a car with 91K miles on it. It starts and runs quite well if it hasn’t been sitting for a while. However, cold starting after sitting requires a few minute warm-up before the idle smoothes out (probably could use some adjustments). I had planned to put a new ZZ-4 Chevy crate motor in it, and a 4-speed automatic, but those plans have hit a road block.… The custom body work alone is worth the price of admission. There are hundreds of hours of work in those modifications. The custom wheels and tires cost $2800 by themselves. There is a jack with the car, but no spare wheel/tire due to the custom wheels. This car was a special project I dreamed of doing for many decades. Sadly, I must sell it because of a forthcoming move. I will no longer have garage space for it. It’s been garage kept since new. Interior Note: I started work on the interior of the car. The leather is in excellent condition for a car of this age. There are no rips or tears in the leather. However, the acrylic dye that was used has cracked in many places and needs to be removed. You’ll notice I had started on the driver’s seat, but that’s as far as I got. Leatherique.com has the products you need to refurbish the leather to like new condition – for about $200 and some labor. I planned to do this, but need a warm place in which to do it, and my garage is unheated. (I got a bid of $2900 to redo the whole interior in leatherette at an upholstery shop, including new carpeting.) There are a couple minor things that need to be done yet also. The speedometer needs a replacement gear to recalibrate it for the oversized tires. Since I’ve not been driving the car a lot I haven’t gotten that done yet. There’s also a minor oil drip from the speedometer cable where the cruise control is mounted. The A/C hasn’t been run for some time and may need to be recharged. I would not personally hesitate to drive this car across country in its current condition. However, this is a used vehicle and that doesn’t mean there would necessarily be no issues. I’m just trying to indicate my personal level of confidence in the vehicle. If you’re interested I would be willing to provide you with my back issues of Avanti Magazine, the Shop Manual, and the other Avanti Materials I have accumulated. I think that covers it. If you have other questions please ask. Call me at 406-467-3226 (Mountain Time) TERMS & CONDITIONS: The car is sold as is, where is (Fairfield, Montana). There are no warranties, express or implied. All taxes, license, insurance, etc. are the responsibility of the buyer. A 30-day sticker will be provided for the buyer. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and charges. A $1000 non-refundable deposit, in certified funds, is required within 72 hours of the end of the auction for the successful bidder. (May be sent via overnight - mail, UPS, FED-Ex, etc. as a USPS Money Order (preferred), prepaid debit card, or a Cashier’s Check. Pay-Pal payments are not authorized.) Balance of winning bid is due within ten days unless otherwise arranged. Balance is preferred in CASH! If paid in another form the funds must be cleared before the vehicle will be released for pick-up or shipping. Note: I will work with you to make special arrangements as necessary to accomplish the completion of the sale and arrange for shipping the car. I can arrange to pick you up at the airport.
