Please check our web site at www.roadstersalon.com for more detailed information. History and Key points 1. Approximately 180 examples of the 1985.5 Fiat Pininifarina Spiders ever built. There are only 50 estimated to remain in the United States. 2. We have never seen an 85.5 automatic before. Could this be the only one remaining? The car has celebrity history, as it was once part of a collection owned by Dr. Atkins of Atkins diet fame. The car is in pristine condition. There is no rust. Please view the pictures and follow our detailed description sections. This is a one of a kind 14K mile car. 3. We believe the odometer to be accurate based on it's unrestored original condition. It will be expensive, so please do not email us about similar cars for $10K. There are none. In our opinion, this represents one of the great car investment opportunities at a modest cost of entry. 4. Important note: We are aware of the auto check/car fax report which states 60,000 miles reported in 1989. Based on our documentation, we believe that this was incorrectly assumed and recorded; the actual miles at that time were 6000. Please call for more clarification. Cosmetic Impressions This car spent much of its life garaged and in warm climates. The interior is stunning and original, with exception of the carpets. These were replaced with factrory reproductions due to sun fading--not wear. Leather appears original and looks spectacular. No dash cracks or other interior concerns. Anyone who knows Italian car paint can look at this car and see that the paint looks too good to be original. A car sprayed in Italy during the mid 1980's would look terrible today, even if well cared for. This car does not show any obvious signs of repaint--such as tape lines or crude overspray. Clearly, this was a well executed, very expensive effort. Such work can only be accomplished with complete disassembly before paint. The trunk and engine compartments confirm silver as the original color. Body lines are straight, with no signs of any previous accident damage. Overall paint quality is superb. No visible scratches or blemishes to mar the overall positive impression. Convertible top appears new, as we doubt the car was ever driven in poor conditions. Driving Impressions The rack and pinion steering and improved brakes found only in the 1985.5 model are welcome improvements to this spider. The car drives like a contemporary convertible, rather than a 25 year old classic. Engine is smooth on start up, and exibited no strange sounds or odors. Transmission shifts well, without whine or complaint. Acceleration is spunky, and we never felt out gunned in normal driving conditions. No strange electrical gremlins. One question sure to be asked is how can we be certain that the miles are accurate? While the miles are recorded as original on the title--in truth, we can never know for sure. It should be noted however, if the miles are not exact, they can not be substantially higher than reported. The tell tale signs of higer miles are simply not present. Orignal carpets were not worn. Seats are original leather, and look like a 14K mile car. Shifter and console agree. Engine compartment and undercarriage all look mile appropriate. Our conclusion is that this is a legitimate example. Regardless of perspective--restored or unrestored, there are simply no 1985.5 Spiders to directly compare to this beauty with respect to overall condition. Market report The 1985.5 is the most valuable example of the Pininfarina/Fiat spider. The combination of low production numbers, low miles, auto transmission and former celeb ownership make this car one of the most valuable spiders ever offered. The only thing keeping this car from immediately braking the $20K barrier is our inability to document the car's previous ownership history with 100% accuracy. Even without that confirmation, it is likely to crash through that $20K barrier within a few years. A wonderful investment. History and Key points

1. Approximately 180 examples of the 1985.5 Fiat Pininifarina Spiders ever built. There are only 50 estimated to remain in the United States.

2. We have never seen an 85.5 automatic before. Could this be the only one remaining? The car has celebrity history, as it was once part of a collection owned by Dr. Atkins of Atkins diet fame. The car is in pristine condition. There is no rust. Please view the pictures and follow our detailed description sections. This is a one of a kind 14K mile car.

3. We believe the odometer to be accurate based on it's unrestored original condition. It will be expensive, so please do not email us about similar cars for $10K. There are none. In our opinion, this represents one of the great car investment opportunities at a modest cost of entry.

4. Important note: We are aware of the auto check/car fax report which states 60,000 miles reported in 1989. Based on our documentation, we believe that this was incorrectly assumed and recorded; the actual miles at that time were 6000. Please call for more clarification.

Cosmetic Impressions

This car spent much of its life garaged and in warm climates. The interior is stunning and original, with exception of the carpets. These were replaced with factrory reproductions due to sun fading--not wear. Leather appears original and looks spectacular. No dash cracks or other interior concerns.

Anyone who knows Italian car paint can look at this car and see that the paint looks too good to be original. A car sprayed in Italy during the mid 1980's would look terrible today, even if well cared for. This car does not show any obvious signs of repaint--such as tape lines or crude overspray. Clearly, this was a well executed, very expensive effort. Such work can only be accomplished with complete disassembly before paint. The trunk and engine compartments confirm silver as the original color.

Body lines are straight, with no signs of any previous accident damage. Overall paint quality is superb. No visible scratches or blemishes to mar the overall positive impression. Convertible top appears new, as we doubt the car was ever driven in poor conditions.

Driving Impressions

The rack and pinion steering and improved brakes found only in the 1985.5 model are welcome improvements to this spider. The car drives like a contemporary convertible, rather than a 25 year old classic. Engine is smooth on start up, and exibited no strange sounds or odors. Transmission shifts well, without whine or complaint. Acceleration is spunky, and we never felt out gunned in normal driving conditions. No strange electrical gremlins.

One question sure to be asked is how can we be certain that the miles are accurate? While the miles are recorded as original on the title--in truth, we can never know for sure.

It should be noted however, if the miles are not exact, they can not be substantially higher than reported. The tell tale signs of higer miles are simply not present. Orignal carpets were not worn. Seats are original leather, and look like a 14K mile car. Shifter and console agree. Engine compartment and undercarriage all look mile appropriate. Our conclusion is that this is a legitimate example. Regardless of perspective--restored or unrestored, there are simply no 1985.5 Spiders to directly compare to this beauty with respect to overall condition.

Market report

The 1985.5 is the most valuable example of the Pininfarina/Fiat spider. The combination of low production numbers, low miles, auto transmission and former celeb ownership make this car one of the most valuable spiders ever offered. The only thing keeping this car from immediately braking the $20K barrier is our inability to document the car's previous ownership history with 100% accuracy. Even without that confirmation, it is likely to crash through that $20K barrier within a few years. A wonderful investment.
