Vehicle Detail

1972 Ford Pinto Runabout (2 door hatchback) with pop out rear windows I bought this car on eBay in October 2009 from a fellow in Texas. My first car was a '72 Pinto, and I'd always wanted to buy another one to tinker with and re-live old memories. I had it delivered to Michigan and promptly put it into dry storage since winter was just arriving. Last year it sat in storage all year long, waiting for me to find time ... I've driven it a total of about 20 miles. Well, my work schedule simply hasn't allowed this and it's time I stopped paying to rent a garage for a car that just isn't getting used. The odometer shows 40,450 miles but I assume it's rolled over and 140,450 is more likely. I haven't done anything to the car since I bought it, other than fill the tank with gas and replace the alternator and battery. The alternator quit sometime between Texas and Michigan when it was being delivered to me, and the battery was the wrong size, so I replaced both and the car starts, warms up, drives and idles just fine. The fellow I bought it from claimed he'd driven it only about 500 miles since he bought it in 2007, so it's had pretty light use in the past four years. About the car ... The car is original paint except for the driver's rear quarter panel and the black accents, but the paint is thin in some places. There was an antenna on the roof at one time but it now has a metal body plug. The front seats have been reupholstered and the back seat is original and in excellent condition. New carpet has been installed. The dash pad has one crack but looks pretty good for it's age. The aftermarket radio doesn't work. The car runs and drives alright for a 39 year old car. It has nice power and a great exhaust note, and gets lots of stares even on a short drive around my small town. I have a pile of receipts from work done on the car by the previous two owners. According to the records, the engine was rebuilt in 2006 by the owner at the time, who lived in Mancos, CO. It probably has only a few thousand miles on it, but I'm guessing. Specs: 2.0 liter 4-cylender bored .030 over with TRW flat top pistonsEsslinger cam with adjustable Star cam pully - 435/272 intake, 460/282 exhaustSchoenfeld headerNew clutch, pressure plate, thrust bearing2.5" exhaust with turbo mufflerPertronix coil and pointless ignitionRebuilt brakes front and rear with master cylinder The fellow I bought the car from lived in Ennis, TX. He did some more work and upgrades: Spearco intakeNew Holley 39 cfm 4bbl carb with electric chokeNew Kumho 185/70/13 radials on Ford factory alloy wheelsMilled cylinder head 0.040 with a fresh valve job, new exhaust valves and new cam bearings I have receipts for nearly all of these upgrades. The car has a Grant steering wheel that looks nice, a Sunpro tachometer, and Sunpro oil pressure, temp, volts in a center console. There's pretty much zero rust on this car. Some non-essential parts were missing and I started collecting on eBay though I haven't gotten around to installing anything. These go with the car. I have a front valance, spare tire hold-down bracket and NOS battery hold-down, and a replacement outside door button (which sticks on this car, just like it did in my original '72 when I sold it in 1989). I notice that the pinion seal is leaking but otherwise the car has no appreciable leaks. It's 39 years old, though, so don't expect it to be perfect. No warranty. No reserve! All photos were taken by the previous owner, but they are of the same car, in the same condition. It's just too snowy in Michigan to take new photos and the car hasn't changed. I do retain the right to end the auction early because the car is for sale locally. Please contact me before you bid if you have a weak feedback record. Deposit of $500 due within 24 hours after the auction via Paypal and full payment due within 7 days, either in cash or by certified funds per my instructions. I will help locate and coordinate shipping (trust me I learned a lot about this figuring out how ship the car to me). Send questions via eBay messages and I'll do the best I can to answer them quickly.
