Vehicle Detail
We recently found and was able to purchase this amazing pickup here locally in Northern California. There is some talk at our shop that this Chevrolet may have been custom ordered by our county and sold by our Chevy dealer here for our first local game warden in 1955. Because of the short bed (115" wheelbase), the red paint and the "freeway" gear that would make some sense of the odd combination. The steel bed sides and tailgate show no dents, damage or use of any kind. We have actually contacted the original Warden and he said 55 was the year they got him a truck (a red 4x4) because prior to that he was using his own car, but we are still waiting for him to come by to confirm. The truck was built originally in Oakland California in 1955 and was fitted from the dealer with the "NAPCO" 4x4 option (you can read about it online if you aren't familiar with it). It was fitted with the divorce transfer case, front axle and rear end adaptor plates, all which are still in place. The gear ratio is 390s which coincides with the NAPCO info plate on the housing and was hand scribed on the front gear during assembly - dated 1955. The motor has been changed to a great running 1972 350 Chevrolet although the bolt ons from the original 265 were used, exhaust manifolds, alternator etc. The rest of the truck is completely original. All the NAPCO components are tagged and matching. The frame and body are in GREAT condition. There is a few small area's on the body that show minor rust (where dirt was held) but nothing major. By far the most solid and straight body we have seen in alot of years. All the glass is original and good. Brakes are good - New master cylinder, slaves and shoes. Original 55 Harrison Radiator Flushed and checked out Good. Dual Exhaust has burned out glass packs that could use a tune up. New water pump. New Edelbrock 4 Barrell (original Carter is included with the sale - we rebuilt it but it just didn't want to give us a good idle so in the box it went). The heater core was removed, repaired and pressure tested and reinstalled. All lites are working including blinks and indicators. Original gauge package in place and working except fuel level (were waiting on a new sending unit should be done and installed by auction end). Wipers are functioning. Stock chrome front bumper and heavy duty rear bumper with tow hitch. True Alcoa 16" 8 lug mags spinning 35" Wild Country Tires. Original style steel wheels with new bias ply tires included in the sale if you want to go with that stock look. Wiring harness is original and functioning but will need replacing. Horn is working. Emergency Brake cable needs to be replaced. One repaint, truck was originally gold. Seat is in perfect shape but material is hard and cracking. Floorboards are solid along with door wells. We are at a cross roads with the build on this truck, we got it running and all systems are functioning properly now we sell it as is for someone who has been searching for one of these rare trucks or keep it and do the restoration ourselves. We will offer it this one time only and no after auction sales will happen. It will be a easy restoration as EVERYTHING is there and in place. The only part that isn't original is the motor but a early 350 is more desirable to most people anyway. The truck runs and drives good although we haven't registered it so we can't really road test it properly. It buzzes around our town but we haven't taken it far from the shop because of our California Highway Patrol diligently doing their job's and this truck get's noticed whenever it rolls up. Truck is sold as is where is with clean Bill of Sale. Ask Questions and Good Luck.On Jan-27-11 at 23:24:36 PST, seller added the following information:
