Vehicle Detail
1984 Mercedes 300CD Diesel Coupe 35K original miles Local car from new No Reserve Auction Up for bids is this super low mile Mercedes, a 1984 300CD. This car was bought new at Rasmussen Mercedes here in Portland as part of their European Delivery Program. The car was delivered new in Sindelfingen on May 21st, 1984 where the new owners enjoyed a driving tour of Europe. The car has had 3 local owners since new, and with its low miles remains an exceptional example of the acclaimed W123 series. Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. Finished in Silver Blue Metallic, code DB930, the car presents very well. The paint finish appears to be all original and in impressive condition - glass smooth, with excellent depth and gloss. The body is free of dings or dents, and of course no rust problems anywhere on the car. Tires are nearly new Toyo radials. All 4 wheels are in excellent condition with no scuffs or curb rash. All of the trim on the car looks like new. Bumpers are unmarked and look terrific. Excellent grill with no flaws. The grill badge signifies the car's participation in the European Delivery Program. All lights and lenses are excellent and look like new. All of the car's glass is excellent, including the windshield. The only cosmetic flaw on the car are some very faint scratches on the driver's side C-pillar, barely visible in the 4th photo below. The trunk presents as new. The spare tire has never been on the ground, still holding air from 1984. The tool kit remains in its original sealed plastic bag, never opened. The interior is likewise excellent, showing only light wear on the leather seats. Dash is pristine with no splits or cracks. Wood trim is all in terrific condition. Door panels are crisp and clean. The carpet is in fantastic condition, having been covered with floor mats (included) since new. The steering wheel reflects the car's low miles, those familiar with Mercedes cars from this era will appreciate just how much texture is present on this wheel, as most become a lot smoother from use after the first 100K miles. All gauges work correctly and show good readings. Clock keeps accurate time. All switches and controls are in like new condition, and all of them operate correctly. The climate control functions as it should, the AC has been converted to R-134 and blows cold. Its auto function works correctly, including the stepped fan feature. The car retains its original Becker Grand Prix cassette radio, a very advanced unit for its time. It works in tandem with the power antenna just as it should. All 4 power windows work swiftly and smoothly. The rear parcel shelf is where the first aid kit is stowed. This kit isn't just a couple of Band-Aids, it's an extensive tri-fold package with a very serious assortment of first aid supplies. All of it is complete and unused. The headliner is unmarked and in super condition. Sliding sunroof works smoothly, including the pop up deflector. All interior lighting works, sunvisor vanity lights both work. For anyone that's driven a diesel W123, this car will be a revelation. I've personally owned 6 of them over the years and am well accustomed to their, um, leisurely performance. This car actually bolts right off the line with assertive and snappy acceleration. Gearshifts are smooth and sure, the ride quality and suspension are tight and firm. There's no substitute for driving a low mile car, this is one I know you'll be very pleased with. The engine bay is all stock Mercedes, right down to the battery. As you can see, this engine bay is undetailed, I took a pass on slathering it in Armor-All like some of the ones you see on eBay. What you're looking at simply reflects 35K miles of operation. The undercarriage is rust free and original, even the exhaust. The car comes with a full assortment of original manuals and paperwork, as well as all of the service records from new. Also included is a folio full of all the documents pertaining to the car's European delivery. There is interesting information here, such as instructions for picking the car up at the factory, a bill of lading for the trip back to the US, customs forms, even an advisory letter stating that a strike by the Metal Workers Union of Germany may "have the effect of delaying sailing dates for automobile carrying vessels"! Here are all of the recommended service stamps in the car's maintenance booklet. The major 30K service was completed at 28K miles, and there are multiple service receipts (not noted in the booklet) in the 7K miles since then. These receipts detail items such as new motor mounts, new antenna, heater mono valve, AC conversion to R134, a valve adjustment and oil changes. The diesel W123 series seem to attract a fan base from a wide variety of backgrounds. Whether you used to own one, are planning to own one, or have memories from buying one new, the coupe on offer here has got to be one of the best remaining examples extant. On Jan-19-11 at 13:35:04 PST, seller added the following information: Just a heads up to everyone that eBay has special requirements for bidding amounts over $15,000, namely, having a credit card on file with them. More information on this at: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bidding-overview.html I've had episodes in the past where a bidder will call me in a panic right after the auction ends, complaining that they tried to make a last minute bid and were not able to, then missed out on the car altogether. Take a look at the ebay info page on this, or place a test bid early to make sure it goes through.
