Vehicle Detail

1984 Mercedes 300TD Wagon Rare Anthracite Gray 117K original miles No Reserve Auction Up for bids is this sharp looking Mercedes wagon, a 1984 300TD.  I've owned a number of these wagons over the years and this is the best one I've ever had.  The car wears original paint and is optioned with the 3rd seat, tow hitch, Euro lights, and a rare MB cargo cover.   Always garaged, the car has benefitted from a full service history, and ownership by dedicated MBCA members.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. Finished in beautiful Anthracite Gray, DB172, this color lends a singular look that's not often found in this model.  The paint is original and has held up beautifully over the years, still with good gloss and shine, and no clearcoat problems anywhere.  If you click to enlarge the first 2 photos below you'll see that this wagon has no door dings at all, the body on this car is arrow straight, just very impressive in person.  Panel gaps are perfect throughout.  The undercarriage is equally impressive with no rust issues anywhere. The car is riding on a set of quality Michelin radials with good tread.  You'll notice that the wheels on this car are polished, which in my opinion adds a distinctive look without the garishness of chroming. Excellent grill, star and surround.  The hood has a few touched in chips, visible in the 2nd and 3rd photos below.  The Hella H4 lights are a great upgrade for these cars, and the fog lights were replaced with driving lights for superior visibility at night. All of the chrome on the car is in beautiful condition with no trace of pitting anywhere.  Both bumpers are undamaged and look great, although the corner mouldings have some light abrasions, see photos below.  The car has a light duty tow hitch complete with wiring, ready to go. All of the anodized trim surrounding the windows is in good shape, as are the rubber seals and moldings.  All of the car's glass are MB-Star branded pieces in great shape, even the windshield.  The factory roof rack retains its crossbars, all of the chrome is excellent, it doesn't appear that this rack has seen much use. One place to check on these cars are the doglegs in the door jambs, as they are prone to rust.  All 4 on this car are perfect, as well as the jacking points below on the rockers.  The undercarriage is likewise all original and completely rust free. The black MB-Tex interior is an elegant complement to the Anthracite exterior, it's in beautifully preserved condition.  All seats are still firm and supportive, the wood trim is without cracks or fading, the carpet is terrific as well. Broad and comfortable back seat with seatbelts and headrests for 3.  You'll notice that the cargo nets on the seat backs aren't saggy like most. The headliner is in good shape from front to rear.  The sunroof operates smoothly, including the pop up wind deflector.  Both sunvisor vanity lights work, although one of the driver's side hinge posts (on the vanity mirror cover) is broken.  The dash pad in this car is totally free of cracks or splits, another testament to its garaged life. All of the switches and controls operate correctly, all 4 power windows work well, remote mirror works, front-rear speaker fader, etc.  Central locking function works correctly.  The radio has been upgraded to an Alpine CD unit, with very good sound fidelity.  The climate control is operating correctly, including the stepped fan feature in auto mode.  Gauges all work and show good readings, clock keeps accurate time.  Ashtrays and lighter are unused. This wagon features a fully working retractable cargo cover and net.  This was an extremely rare factory option, there's one for sale on eBay right now for $600!  The net has 2 sets of mounting points on the roof, so it can be used even when the back seats are folded flat.  When removed, the back area can convert into a 3rd seat, complete with lap and shoulder belts. The 3rd seat is in the same excellent condition as the other upholstery, it turns this wagon into a 7 seater.  The car comes with all jacking equipment and the factory first aid kit.  Notice the top of the spare tire cover - they are prone to becoming sun faded, this one is excellent.  The headliner is unmarked and in great condition, you can see the 2 mounting points for the cargo net, front and back.  The struts for the back hatch have been replaced, it opens swiftly and stays up. If you click to enlarge these photos you can see the full service history this car has had, including an engine overhaul at 96,000 miles. The car saw limited use after 1993, when it went into semi-retirement with 96K miles.  Last year the car was sent out for a major servicing, the included $3500 receipt shows a valve adjustment, suspension work, all new fluids, new belts, transmission seals and a new rear main seal - this car doesn't leak! This Mercedes fires to life easily and runs with the bulldog determination that these diesels are known for.  The car has a very comfortable ride, devoid of squeaks or creaks, it tracks straight down the road with a solild feeling.  The car shifts well, brakes well, and basically gets you to your destination with no drama.  Many of these cars are known to rack up close to 500K miles, with 117K this one has a long life ahead of it. Engine bay is clean, not a grease bomb like some.  The 4th photo shows a plug-in cord for the block heater, useful for those of you in the colder climes.  It was not needed when we had overnight lows in the 20s recently, the car fired right up. Feel free to email me with any questions: mail(at)cascadiaclassic.com I am selling another diesel Mercedes on eBay, a 1984 300CD (Coupe) with 35K original miles, also at No Reserve!  See my other listing at this link. On Jan-19-11 at 13:17:48 PST, seller added the following information: I had meant to post these photos earlier but I had another car taking up space on my lift, so here they are now. As you can see, the undercarriage shows no rust problems, no areas of previous repair, no signs of accident history. When the rear main seal failed it laid down some oil on the underside of the car, in the 3rd photo below you can see where it was wiped off, revealing original undercoating. I guess this dried oil can seen as adding to the undercoating, huh. The seal was replaced back in May of 2010, the car has not leaked a drop since. Both sills on the car are perfect, including the jacking points. Both mufflers are OE Mercedes branded units. Click to enlarge any of the photos. On Jan-19-11 at 16:22:45 PST, seller added the following information: Some pics of the underside of the hood for those that asked. Mercedes from this era have hoods that can open a full 90 degrees, great for easy engine access. On Jan-23-11 at 22:45:21 PST, seller added the following information: Just a heads up to everyone that eBay has special requirements for bidding amounts over $15,000, namely, having a credit card on file with them. More information on this at: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bidding-overview.html I've had episodes in the past where a bidder will call me in a panic right after the auction ends, complaining that they tried to make a last minute bid and were not able to, then missed out on the car altogether. Take a look at the ebay info page on this, or place a test bid early to make sure it goes through.
