Vehicle Detail
For Sale Here is a Rare Find. It is a 1981 Royal Red Volkswagon pickup that was owned by a retired Nebraska Farmer for it's whole life until Sept 26th of 2010 when we bought it from his farm auction. The old farmer drove it only during the summer and for the first 10 years then he moved to a care facility and the pickup moved into the Morton building where the kids stored it until he passed away and it was sold.We bought it to replace the 81 vw pickup we bought new and now has 280,000 miles on it.This one has only 47,600 original miles on it and it shows. We have been told that these are getting to be collectibles so we will offer it for sale for someone to put in their collection. These little trucks will do nothing but go up in value especially if gas goes back to 4.00 a gal like there talking. It has 2 new tires on the front and what I think are the original equiptment tires on the rear. Everything on this little truck works like it should except the clock which is in-op and the headliner which is in good shape, but is being held up by about 20 or so little screws that the old grandpa put inn. Now for the details: To set the record straight on the title of this truck,,according to the report there have been 4 owners since new and that is not true. I have a copy of the original new title when this truck was sold new and it was owned by the same owner until sept of this year 2010. The descrepancy is that about 10 years ago the original owner added his son to the title presumeably when he went into the assisted living facility, then in sept the title was transferred to the auctioneer for 2 weeks for the auction, then transferred to me in oct of 2010 when we bought the truck. So to simplify- the same family owned it from new until sept of 2010 when it was sold to us.Also the auto report has a low rating due to the low mileage and they assumed it is incorrect due to the age of the vehicle--- This truck has 48,000 original miles and when you see it and drive it you will know that is true. Also mileage will change as we are using this as needed. Also the EGR light on the dash occasionaly lights up and we have not taken time to fix it, but trust me that it runs great and is like new! This truck is like new-period.. It has not been restored or refurbished or retrofitted in any way shape or form. It has the original paint on it and does not have a speck of bondo anywhere on the truck. For a 30 year old vehicle the body is impeccable. It has a small little ding on the front of the hood from when a tree branch fell on it which you can see in the pictures. Also it has 3 spots on the drivers side where the paint was starting to bubble up a little indicating the start of a little surface rust, which are evident in the photos by the black spots in the paint. We wire brushed and lightly sanded the paint off then applied Permatex rust converter to these 3 spots to stop the rust in it's tracks then covered the Permatex with Red paint until a permanent repair can be made. Again the 2 spots above the exhaust pipe and the one below the drivers door were only surface rust and the metal beneath is just fine. The rest of the paint shines up nicely and the chrome bumpers really shine as well. We repainted the inside of the box with regular equiptment enamel as a primer for the bed liner we will install if it doesn't sell and we keep it. The pictures we took don't so it justice and it shines better than the pictures show.( I think we need a new digital camera?) I would rate the paint at an 8 or considering the age it would geta a 10. Also has the factory stock wheels, hubcaps, and beauty rings that shine up like no other. This little truck is the Fuel injected 4 cylinder gas engine with a 4 speed transmission and gets around 38-40 mpg for those of you not familiar with these. Everything mechanical seems right with this truck and you can tell it's really low mileage by how tight everything is and how great it runs. The strut towers are great and have no rust and the floor pans also look like new because when new this truck was dealer undercoated and is still intact to protect everything. The only thing we could spot that has been replaced is part of the exhaust system which I assume had a hole in it due to time and short drives and moisture in the exhaust. This truck is equipped with Factory Air Conditioning which works great and will freeze you out and it has a craig stereo with a cassette player that works well for what it is. The interior is in great shape with the dash looking factory new in the maroon colors, the headliner is in great shape but grandpa put in about 20 screws to help hold it up and works fine but should be replaced to make it a show car. The seats look well with light brown vinyl with no tears and the carpet is good but could use a good cleaning. All of the glass is great and windows work like they should. The vent windows on this truck are different from ours in that they are fixed and don't open. The door trim and all of the mouldings are in great shape and still look like new.The heater, defroster, and fan all work well also. I hate to be so long winded- but this little truck deserves a good description, and if you buy it we don't want any misconceptions, or misunderstandings, and please don't bid if you can't follow through if you win, and if you get here and don't think we represented it accurately you can walk away and we'll just keep Lil' Red. I am a farmer and not a car guy and bought this truck to use, but maybe it needs to be put out to pasture or in a barn on display. When we bought our first VW pickup in 81 it cost us 8124.00 outright and this is as close to a new one as anyone will find or come accross and in 2010 dollars should be worth 15,000.00. E-mail any questions and Thanks for looking!!
