Vehicle Detail

This is a gold, 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300D turbo diesel sedan. Purchased off Ebay in 2007. It has been my daily driver since that time. It runs well, but due to its accumulating mechanical issues, it's probably best to consider this a parts car. The good: Then engine runs well. It starts easily and loves the highway. It can cruise at 70-75mph or so without difficulty. It might do more, but I never push it beyond that. There is a minimal amount of smoke on start up , but after a 10-15 seconds, the engine runs clear. It can start a bit rough in cold weather, but after just 10-20 seconds all cylinders catch and it runs smooth. It does have an engine block heater. I find I only need to use it when I park it outside and temperatures are below 0 F. The steering and alignment are good. The brakes work well. The heater works well, but the thermometer is not working, so you can't set a temperature. The options for the heater are On and Off. The cabin stays dry and there are no major drafts. The leather seats are in good shape for the age and the headliner is good. The fuel guage, speedo and tach all work fine. The headlights, fog lights, turn indicators and brake lights work. It can still be trusted for a long road trip. No known crash damage. The bad: Many things in this car do not work. The driver's window works, but the others do not (they remain up). The sunroof does not open and was painted shut. The passenger-side windshield wiper does not work. The passenger-side wiper fluid jet does not work. There is a small oil leak, less than 1 quart per oil change. The odometer does not work. It has been stuck at about 169,000 miles since I bought the vehicle. The trunk leaks a bit of water around the seal, but not too much. The suspension squeaks, but rides fine. The radio antenna is broken. Some of the wood panelling on the dash is falling off, but none missing. The tires are near end of life. The air conditioner does not work. The ugly: There is a lot of rust on this car. I purchased the vehicle from NY, so I suspect it suffered on the roads there for years. Ohio has not been any kinder to it. The floor pan in the rear seat on the driver's side rusted out. I replaced it with plywood and put fiberglass resin on the bottom. It has held well, but I'm pretty sure my repair would not be factory-certified. Shipping: Buyer must arrange shipping or pick up locally. Payment: Cash, money order or cashier's check accepted. Sold as is. No warranty. If buyer is picking vehicle up locally and finds it is not as described, buyer may cancel sale at time of pickup for full refund.
