Vehicle Detail

Hi, I am selling my ’71 Datsun 510 wagon. I purchased it a few months ago from its second owner. I have really had a blast with this 510 as my daily driver since. Seeing people’s reactions to this car is really fun (yes, even here in jaded Southern California). This car makes people smile and EVERYONE talks to me about it. I realized over the holidays that I simply have too many cars right now (nine) and need to sell a few and focus on only three or four projects. I had visions of completely restoring this incredibly-original 510 and then lettering it as the BRE Racing Team Transport Car (which would have been really fun at the Laguna Seca Historic Races - so, why don’t you do it?). FYI: I don’t think the BRE team had a team transport 510 wagon. This 510 lived its entire life in Southern California. It has absolutely zero rust or accidents. It also has two rare options: 1) Air Conditioning. Yes, it works! It needs a charge, but it blows pretty cold. 2) Vinyl Top. Unfortunately, the second owner stripped most of it off as Mr. Sun must have gotten to it, but there is still blue vinyl on the rear hatch. This is awesome, as you can find a shop that could perfectly match the blue vinyl color and texture. This addition would increase the value of this rare Datsun considerably. I priced a new vinyl top install recently at several high-end So. Cal. upholsterers. Quotes ranged from $350-450 to cover the entire roof and hatch. The most important aspect of this 510 is that it is completely original and unrestored. That is original paint you are looking at. It is very presentable and would look even better if you took the time to buff it with rubbing compound (I haven’t yet). There is one dent on the right front fender (the previous owner told me a horse ran into it!), but I believe a really good painless dent guy could fix it as there is no crease in the sheetmetal. You could daily drive this 510 (like I did) and fix it up as you go or completely restore it and end up with a rare-optioned 510 goon that could belong in Nissan’s own museum. I have done a bunch of maintenance to the car since purchasing it: I installed a brand-new clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing as well as replaced and adjusted the brakes all around (including the emergency brake). I also installed NOS NGK spark plugs and adjusted the valves to factory specs. It could use an oil change. If this 510 had one single negative, it would be that the valve guides are pretty worn out. It blows a small cloud of oil occasionally, but it is not that big a deal. The easiest way to fix it would be to buy a rebuilt head and swap heads. If it really bugs you, you could easily could do the swap in one afternoon with a helper and a service manual (a completely rebuilt head should cost about $350 exchange). The engine runs strong. Remember, this car only has 139,000 miles on it. It’s still tight, so don’t worry about it. Check the dashboard. There is only one tiny crack in the entire dash (none in the rare air conditioning dash). The steering wheel is perfect with no cracks. All is soft and supple - not like most So. Cal. dashboards that are fried and hard as a rock. Of course, the driver’s seat needs reupholstering, but remember, THIS CAR IS UNRESTORED and completely original! YOU get to restore it. To recap: it runs perfectly. I would drive it cross-country today without hesitation. The closeup pic of the wheelwell is typical of the no-rust anywhere condition of the car (that is only water droplets on the paint surface - it has rained here for a week - that is not the paint bubbling from underneath). This 510 is a real, “keeper.” I just have too many cars to keep it myself... Finally: this is a 40-year old used vehicle and is being auctioned (sold) AS-IS. No warranty is expressed or implied. No returns. The vehicle is available for inspection by your mechanic/representative 7 days a week until the auction ends. I can help with transportation and am willing to store the vehicle for free for up to three weeks while you arrange shipping. See eBayease for more. If you have any questions, please call me: (626) 716-7780 (until 10:00 P.M. P.S.T., please) or e-mail me: timgavern@gmail.com. I also have this 510 listed locally on Craig's List and reserve the right to end the auction early if a local buys it. Don’t miss it. Don't let anyone else get it - Buy it now! Good luck and thanks! Thanks for checking it out and happy bidding! Tim I apologize in advance for the following eBayease – just keepin’ it real. 1. Please ask any questions BEFORE you bid. 2. Please do not bid if you are not financially prepared to purchase this item. Thanks. 3. Please contact me within 24 hours to let me know how you plan to pay. 4. Items must be paid for within 7 days. If payment is not made within 7 days, a dispute will be filed. Of course, I realize that stuff happens: therefore, if you need more time, please contact me and I will probably give you extra time to pay. 5. Payment methods accepted: PayPal. Also, cash is good if you are picking up the item. I DO NOT accept: personal or business checks of any kind – too many hassles in the past. Sorry. For vehicles, a cashier’s check is acceptable, but the vehicle goes nowhere until the check is determined to be legitimate and payment in full is in my bank account. 6. I highly recommend insurance and tracking (additional cost unless otherwise noted). I am NOT responsible for uninsured items lost in shipping. 7. I will always combine multiple purchases for one shipping cost. 8. Usually, there are no additional charges, but, sometimes a small handling charge may be added if an item requires extra packing materials or a specially-purchased box, etc. Of course, I will let you know, up front, if there is any additional charge. 9. Many of my items will also be listed for sale locally on Craig’s List and may sell while an auction is running. Therefore, I reserve the right to cancel an auction at any time. If you really want it, use "Buy It Now" if it is available. 10. Please note that I only ship once a week - usually on Friday. Please try to get your payment to me before Friday, so I can ship it out the same week. Thanks! 11. I appreciate your business and want you to be happy with your purchase. Please let us know if there is a problem and I will do everything we can to resolve it. 12. Most of the items I sell are vintage and will not be 100% perfect. Items are sold, "as is". I carefully examine each item and describe and photograph it as best as I can, therefore, refunds will be at my discretion and only if I really blew it on the description (i.e. left out a very significant detail, etc.). Just consider my policy to be, “no refunds of any kind”. 13. I have shipped many cars to several countries and currently recommend uship dot com for the best shipping prices. If you win one of my auctions for a vehicle, I would really appreciate it shipping out within 2-3 weeks, so start getting quotes NOW. After three weeks of storage (from date of auction’s end), I will require a $100 storage fee per month (via PayPal) before I will release the vehicle to your shipper. This is only fair since storage in Los Angeles is so expensive. Please be sure to check out the other rare and interesting goodies listed on eBay, too. Again, thanks again for looking and good luck! On Jan-01-11 at 12:18:41 PST, seller added the following information: New undercarriage photos posted. Hard to believe this car is 40-years old!
