Vehicle Detail
1972 Chevrolet C-30 Cab & Chassis (CE31403). I bought it recently and was going to build it into a ramp truck. Then, I found and bought an earlier (’68) truck that already had a ramp body, so I am letting this one go. Buy it now is what I paid (FYI: reserve is close) - I just want my money back so I can get on with restoring my ’68 ramp truck. This ’72 was a plasterer's truck that had a 12' flatbed with stakes (see pic). It has a 157" wheelbase (84" cab to axle). It measures 131-1/2" from cab to rear of frame. I gave the flatbed body to a friend, so it is gone. I like to buy my trucks unrestored and unmolested, so I know exactly what I am getting and this one is no different. It is an original white/blue original-paint truck that led a work truck's life. It has power disc brakes and power steering. The truck is in good overall condition as it did live in Southern California, but it needs restoration. Luckily, you can fix this truck up as you drive it as it has a great-running GM Goodwrench 350 cu. in. engine that the previous owner stated had about 50,000 miles on it. The truck runs perfectly and breathes well with a dual exhaust system (pipes exit in front of the rear wheels). It's turbo 400 shifts great and the brakes work fine. The previous owner even had freeway flyer gears installed in the rearend (sorry, I don't know the ratio, but I do know that it flies down the freeway. It cruises at 65 with the engine is barely turning). I would not be afraid to drive this truck across the country today although it would be a little bouncy with no weight on the rearend. This truck has never been in a serious accident and has very little rust (it does have a small amount of rust in the rocker area on both sides - yes, even So. Cal. trucks have rust there, but that's about it for rust - unless you count the surface rust on the hood - LOL!). It is very straight and has only one small dent in the passenger door and cab corner. Not a big dent either. The frame is amazingly nice as is the rest of the body. I pressure washed the chassis after we removed the body and there is still a lot of black paint on the insides of the rails - even the outsides of the rails still have a hint of paint on them - they’re not all bumpy like rust belt frames. This frame is smooooth. I am originally from Pennsylvania and trucks with frame rails this nice just don't exist there. This is one sweet truck to build. If I didn't find the earlier truck, I would be building it into a ramp truck without hesitation. I mean, this truck is amazingly nice everywhere. Look closely at the photos and you'll agree. Oh, and by the way, it even still has both of its original blue and yellow California commercial license plates. Sorry I don't have more pics - it has been raining here for, like, one week and the truck is currently in storage about 50 miles from me. I will try to get more up before the auction ends. I also have the truck listed locally on Craig's List and reserve the right to end the auction early if a local buys it. Feel free to call me with any questions Tim (626) 716-7780 (until 10:00 P.M., P.S.T., please!) Get a shipping quote at uship dot com. The weight of the truck is 4300 pounds without the body. It is 239" long and 81-1/2" wide and, approximately 76" tall. I will work with your shipper, but would appreciate it if the truck was shipped out within 2-3 weeks. Last thing: I know a really good ramp truck body builder. I used to sell Chevrolet commercial trucks and this guy built all of our custom bodies and modifications. He is really good and can even work from a napkin sketch! If you are interested, I could deliver the chassis to him and he could build and install a custom body before the truck even left Southern California. Something to think about...Thanks and good luck bidding!
