Vehicle Detail

1939 FORD VINTAGE STOCK CAR RACER For your consideration is a true survivor, ’39 Ford Coupe Stock Car from back in the Day. Raced in Northern Florida in the 50’s, it was retired with the arrival of the overheads and sat in seclusion for a number of years before heading to a Florida Museum, on to Indiana for a short spell and then to me about 12 years ago. It is “run” ready and able to go. This car has all the “trick stuff” from days gone by from its beer keg gas tank (electric fuel pump added for safety….no pressurized systems, thank you) to the jenny Franklin Quick change rear on Ford full floaters/safety hubs. Front suspension is modified Ford with tube shocks and safety hubs. The original screw type weight jacks are in place and functional front and rear. Engine is a 1948 Mercury bored .060 over with an ISKY cam, adjustable lifters and Zephyr springs. It has Edelbrock Aluminum cylinder heads. The block has been relieved and the engine has been balanced. It is an outstanding performer that runs cool behind the massive vintage radiator. Transmission is stock 1939 Ford. Tach is vintage electric. The roll cage is strong and has been field tested.….once. Updated 5 point Simpson belts have been added to meet modern vintage Club racing rules. The “carry” tubes remain welded to the main cross bar, as pictured, should you wish to remove the axles and flat tow the car to its next race. Add tow bar and clip on lights and you are good to go! Drums are ’36-’39 Ford with wide rims on ’36-’39 Ford centers. Tires are fresh and have a “police pattern” which allows you to get a bit serious on both dirt and asphalt tracks. I have run the car at speed at the Toledo and Sandusky Speedways in Ohio , and at Auto City, Flat Rock and Michigan International in Michigan. These tracks vary from a 1/4 mile to a two mile super speedway and the car loved every minute of it. For those who are wondering and too shy to ask, the circular holes in the fenders, etc allow both dirt and air to escape the body work, keeping it light without lift buildup in the cabin/turret area. This feature is not really that essential on the short tracks but a “must” on the larger high speed circuits. This car was featured at Ford’s 100th Anniversary of Racing, (2001) Ford’s 100th Anniversary (2003) and has made 11 straight appearances at the annual Motor Muster at Greenfield village in Dearborn in addition to its on track appearances. Pictures are current except for the two vintage photo’s taken when the car was in all black paint, violated regularly, and without sponsor. This is an excellent example of a real race car that can be used for vintage racing or as a real conversation piece in any collection…..or both! There are some “modern builds” out there but few survivors….for obvious reasons All questions should be directed to Roy Nacewicz, 734.654. 9450 nertman@aol.com
