For sale is my 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet, white with white and grey cloth with white top and white wheels. This is a rare DIESEL!!! The car use to have a gasoline 1.8L gas engine, but I swapped the engine to a 1.6L diesel. The car also use to be an automatic, but I converted it to a 5spd manual when I did the diesel conversion. The car gets close to 50mpg. Runs good and fun to drive. The donor car was a 1982 1.6L diesel jetta with five speed and AC. The swap looks stock with AC. The project car runs good, used as a daily driver. The car has little rust, paint condition is good for age. The car has same power as gas car but fuel mileage is great. It been getting about 490 miles on 10 gallons of fuel. The convertible top is manual as are the side glass. The tires are about 10% wore. All glass and lights work. The car has a top speed of 75 mph. It drives best at 60-65 mph. The motor has good compression, a rebuilt injection pump, clear fuel lines and a electric transfer pump. The car starts every time. It has an updated glow plug system with manual switch. The top needs replacing but does not leak(see photos). The body is good, but there is a dent in drivers door(see photos). The interior is clean. the seats are in good shape. The dash is good, speedometer works but tach does not work. Fuel gauge works, temp, bar gauges works. Please review photos for condition. Cabriolets were never offered in the United States with a diesel engine. This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants the advantages of a diesel in a fun and different vehicle.
