Vehicle Detail
1980 TR8 in Midas Metallic Gold with original Tan Check interior. 3.5 liter V-8, 5 speed overdrive trans. All original equipment, with 67000 miles, absolutely no body rust. Looks and runs excellent. Check out the NADA values below. Clean car fax of the car available by email on request. Excellent paint and finish – I do not know for sure if paint is original because I do not have all service records, but I cannot find any evidence of a repaint and the finish speaks for itself. CV top is in good shape and plastic panels still have clear visibility with minimal fading. Interior finishes are very good including dashboard, door panels, and seats. The original alloy wheels are excellent and the car has the original alloy spare. New starter, battery replaced in June 2010. Air filters replaced. Receipts for emissions and carb tuning - engine runs well with quick start-up. New brakes Nov 2010. Also included is a car cover and shop manual. Only major issue is the A/C compressor quit working a while ago, and will need a rebuild or replacement. Cash or bank transfer for balance. I can assist with loading or can deliver within 75 miles of Philadelphia. This is an unmodified, unmolested example, with excellent investment upside potential. This is a relist of an earlier auction due to a no-show buyer. On Nov-30-10 at 19:59:36 PST, seller added the following information: I have been asked by a few bidders/watchers to give as much detail as possible as to any and all known problems with the car. Bear in mind this is a 30 year old car. While in my opinion it's as nice as any I've seen for sale at anywhere even close to this price, it is not a 100 point concurs car. To convey the issues below, I have added new photos to the photobucket link which hopefully will show these as honestly as possible. Besides the ac, the things that I believe should be noted are as follows : 1) there is a scuff on the drivers side seat exterior sidewall - during normal use you hardly notice it when you get in and out of the car as you really have to be down low to have it stand out - in fact I never even noticed it myself until about 4 months after I bought the car. 2) the tops of the door panels have some color fading due to age. Even though the panels are available at a reasonable price from the usual sources, I never changed these, because doing so would be to veer off the road of "only original once". If a future owner wants to change them, feel free. The pictures I added to Photobucket show it, but I think the harsh flash may somewhat over-emphasize this. In keeping with todays trends in the vintage car world, my feeling is this particular car deserves to be preserved and not restored. But that is only a personal opinion - I could also see if someone wanted to swap them out. It may also be possible to use some vinyl restorer, but it did not bother me anywhere near enough to consider this. 3) The carpet, while generally very good, does has similar fading which can be seen when the floor mats are lifted out. 4) there is start of some yellow discoloring in the vinyl windows of the soft top - approx 1-2" up from the bottom on the corner panels - again, nothing that needs to be addressed (unless you are considering the car for concurs judging) but not brand new either. 5) There is one snap missing on the c/v cover - a $3.00 part. Finally, as to the question of "does it it leak oil"? Yes, of course - it's British. I would estimate a puddle about the diameter of a quart can lid after about 3-4 weeks of sitting. My mechanic's and my personal assessment after talking to the Wedge Shop is this is front seal problem which is well known to the marque. Today's newer seals use a double rubber ring instead of a single ring. The motor is bone dry above the seal. I presently deal with it by placing an aluminum pan under the motor. Feel free to ask any additional questions and check out the photos I have added to convey the issues noted above. Thanks,
