Vehicle Detail
1935 AMERICAN AUSTIN TOURER Micro Car Project - LHD four seater This vehicle was purchased about 15 years ago in Connecticut. It was found inside a storage trailer along with a commercial bodied Model T Ford delivery truck. It had been locked away in this trailer for 20+ years at that time. The owner had a scrap yard and had somehow acquired these two vehicles years earlier, but knew very little about them. He called this one an American Bantam. Further investigation, on our part, indicates it is most like actually an American Austin as it appears to be earlier then 1938, when the American Bantam started production. We don't know what it is. It has a chassis plate, bearing the number 257866. The engine block has the name "Austin" in script cast into it. It is left-hand drive and always appears to have been LHD. The rear tag mount appears more like a European type, but it even still has the license plate bolts hanging there from a previous US tag size. The instruments are gone. The top bows are there. The headlights are US made with sealed beam inserts. We do not know if they are the originals or not, but feel that they probably are not. There are no side curtains. The body wood needs work, but there is a box of various wood pieces that probably came out of the driver's door. The passenger door wood is intact and is definitely original in fairly sound order. There is something missing from the side of the engine block that has the "Austin" script cast in it. We think it may have been a mechanical fuel pump. There is an extra carburetor. We may have some extra parts and pieces and will try to locate them. With this said, bid on it as if all that is being sold with it is what you see in these photos as we can't guarantee additional parts and pieces until we find them. We intend to look hard for them in the next day or so and will post our findings with the listing. Keep a close eye on the listing so you don't miss our added notes and comments. It is sold with a notarized "bill of sale" only. We do not have a title. The tire size is 5:00 X 16 inch. The front bumper is with the parts and it appears to be the original. We only have what is left of one of the front seats. That was found out behind the trailer that the car was stored in under a bunch of leaves, hence the badly rusted condition. The rear seat is missing. The floor has a couple of early patches towards the rear of the body. The doors, quarter panels and cowl has no rust out, but the inner panels are surface rusted. The windshield appears to be the original and is not broken. The wiper motor is there. The body sills are sound and untouched (no patches or previous work is evident). Come and see it in person if you can. It is stored in central Virginia. We listed this vehicle last week, incorrectly, as a 1935 AMERICAN AUSTIN. Thanks to one of the people that read it, we now know exactly what it is - a 1935 AUSTIN 7 TOURER, that was most likely sold by Roy S. Evans, the importer for US Market LHD drive models. This helpful tip gave us lots of historical information which leads us to believe that this little car is actually historically pretty important. The American Austin Co. went bankrupt in late 1934. Roy S. Evans, picked up the pieces and reorganized as the American Bantam Company, and started selling those in 1937. In between, this AUSTIN 7 model with LHD for the North American market was being imported and sold by the same individual. Exactly how many LHD North American market cars were sold is presently unknown. The chances are only a handful, at best, still exist today. This is the ideal "missing link" car for the serious micro car collector that already has an example of the American Austin and of the later American Bantam. Some extra parts and pieces have been found and photos of them will be posted in a day or so. BUY IT NOW PRICE $3200.00 We encourage prospective buyers to come and see the car, or send their representative. It is stored in Lynchburg, Virginia. Shown by appointment only. More photos can be provided. Contact Nate Thompson for mor einformation at 434-509-6219 thompson.hdproductions@gmail.com *DISCLAIMER* SUBJECT TO WITHDRAWAL as this car has ads placed in Hemmings Motor News and Port War Classics. If the car is sold, or a deposit to purchase has been tendered, this auction will be ended prematurely. With special circumstances, with a substantial non-refundable deposit, we may consider giving the buyer extra time to come up with the total purchase price. This will only be considered for those who contact us in advance of the auction end and work out the details to a mutually acceptable agreement. In short, we want to sell the car, so if the buyer is reasonable we will do our best to make it easier to do business. Again, this sort of arrangement has to be worked out in advance of the auction ending. We will not accept any bids from anyone with less then 10 EBay transactions, and less then a 95% positive feedback rating. If you do have less then 10 transactions and would like to bid on the vehicle please use the "ask seller a question" link on the right hand side of the page to contact us. You need to get our permission to bid before, not after you bid. The request to bid must be made through the "ask seller a question" feature.
