Vehicle Detail
. Paint is new, the engine, and interior parts are all new. The underneath side has had some welding done, and is solid. It needs an inner rocker panel installed (new one in car), and has some rust showing in wheel houses behind tires.. I don't have time or desire to put back together, but truck is close to completion. Below is the description from the man I bought the van from. I have lowered my reserve to $3,000 less than I paid for it. Merry Christmas! the Bus is a 1967, 12 volt, 11 window body style, non walkthrough. It is titled as a 1967 Kombi Station Wagon with the VIN plate saying "S02200204" It was originally white over burgundy red with grey tweed interior. When I purchased it in November '07, it had been repainted brown over orange. It also had an 1835cc kit with a Holley two-barrel carb on an "AS" series dual-port case (60hp California Type I, post '71 as far as I can tell from what I've read). It has reduction boxes still fitted on the rear. I purchased the van in Flint, Michigan, and drove it from there to St. Louis, Missouri. The 1835cc kit ran far too hot for the van and detonated piston 3. When I got home, I pulled the engine immediately. Since I have had the van, I have had it repainted in more modern Volkswagen colors from the Golf cars. It is a lovely metallic champagne over racing green combination. I have an entire new interior with carpets, and have recovered the seats. I also have a new head liner and all new door and window seals, some of which I have had time to install. I have two new front window glasses. I have installed a completely new wiring loom and gas tank. I have a new fuse board and the infamous headlight and wiper motor select switches as well as a new turn-signal mechanism. I was told that the brakes were virtually new when I bought the van, and the tires don't seem bad either. As far as the engine goes, I stripped it back to the cases and had Archway Imports (Air Cooled specialists - check them out!) of St. Louis remachine the cases and crankshaft. It received a new clutch plate, starter, a more appropriate 1776cc kit (running with stock cam shaft), and a new head on the side that was damaged by the split piston. The single Holley two-barrel carb was replaced by a set of electric choked dual 40mm Kadron carbs and many new tin pieces for the shrouds. It has an Empi 4-into-1 exhaust set-up and new heater boxes to keep you toasty. In other words, I've set it up to be a very reliable daily driver for the Midwest.
