Vehicle Detail

1969 Volkswagen Camper Van Orig Blue GEX engine 2003 – This was my son’s daily driver for about 2 years. He bought it in Florida and drove it to South Carolina, where he was stationed in the Navy. When he got his orders to report to the aircraft carrier, the George Washington (he is a nuclear electronics technician and runs the nuclear reactors onboard), he drove it to Ohio and left it with me. He has since decided to sell it, so we transferred the title to my name and I am selling it for him. I have driven it locally over the summer and it is a good running vehicle. It has had MANY parts professionally replaced or rebuilt in the last 7 years and I have all the receipts for this work. The van body is in very good condition, with only a little rust in a few places. You can see the areas with rust in the photos. The paint is the original light blue and is very good. This was a southern car, so it did not see hard winters or salt from the roads. The interior is good, with matching upholstery (original?) throughout. It has seat belts installed. The camper cabinets have been painted and look pretty good. The floor has vinyl on it and is in decent condition. Mechanically, this van seems to be in very good condition. It starts right up and runs/idles well with no smoke. The clutch is good and does not slip. Here is a list of the work done and the parts that have been replaced along with the dates: 1. GEX remfg engine installed – 2003 2. Remfg. Transmission installed – 2003 3. New Sparkplug wires and sparkplugs – 2010 4. New alternator installed – 2010 5. New ignition switch installed – 2010 6. New Carburetor and throttle cable installed – 2010 7. New clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing installed – 2008 8. New rear main seal, 8 pushrod tubes, seals, and valve cover gaskets installed – 2010 9. New steering drag link installed – 2010 10. New rocker arm assembly installed and valves adjusted – 2010 11. 4, new white stripe (original style) tires mounted/balanced – 2010 (less than 500 miles on them) All these parts were installed by certified, professional service shops and I have all the receipts. Here is a partial list of the restoration parts it comes with: 1. Various new control cables – sealed in original bags 2. New wheel cylinder brake hoses 3. New weather stripping for doors/windows 4. New condenser 5. New fuel filter 6. New fresh air hose seals 7. New crankcase vent tube seal 8. Various new gaskets and seals in original packages 9. Various new hardware, clips, etc. 10. New VW style fuses 11. Various used plastic ducts 12. Various used metal brackets 13. Antique vehicle Florida plates Here is what I know it will need: 1. A master cylinder – it works, but it leaks and you have to pump it a couple of times to get a pedal 2. The speedometer and odometer needs a cable 3. The heater needs work – lol…don’t they all? 4. The inner front liner panel (the fiber board panel under the front dash) needs replaced 5. The headliner is good, but is stained 6. The radio does not work 7. 1 turn signal does not work – probably a bulb 8. The steering is loose, but livable Other than these few things I noted, this is a very nice vintage camper van in very good condition. It has had almost every major mechanical component professionally replaced/rebuilt in the last 7 years (over $6,000 invested!) and has all the documentation with it. It was driven from South Carolina to Ohio in April, 2010 and has been driven several times a month since then. It has brand new tires mounted on it. It has a clear, Ohio title in my name, and you can come test drive it (I have it insured) and drive it home! Good luck!On Nov-19-10 at 22:15:18 PST, seller added the following information: Important Update! This van has been checked out several experienced VW collectors/restorers and I have good news to report. The pan and frame members are in very good condition! Remarks like "You can tell it didn't come from around here" and "Wow, it is all solid" were made about the condition of the pan and frame. I am not a bus/van collector or expert, so I did not check these critical details before I listed it, but I thought I would pass this information on to the rest of you. Good luck!
