Vehicle Detail
Hi, my name is Mike Pranka. I'm a long time Alfa fan and have owned and driven many Alfas since the 80's. I've owned a '72 GTV for many years. I started looking for a GTV6 last year and earlier this year found one in S. California being offered by a long time owner (and nice fellow) that seemed to fit the bill. I had the car inspected at Omega Motorsports in Culver City, CA. A compression test and thorough inspection confirmed it was a good car with an excellent engine/transmission and overal condition, so we struck a deal and I made plans to fly out and drive home (St. Louis, MO). Given the car's easy access to Omega, I had a variety of maintenance procedures performed before taking delivery- -New timing belt/tensioner & water pump & fluids (I have the original hydraulic tensioner) -New wheel bearings -New Pirelli Tires in the correct size, 195/60R15 -New drive shaft 'donuts' -Previous owner had the rear calipers/pads replaced not long ago at Omega, as well. I have the recent invoices for work performed and some from the previous owner- he didn't keep track of all the paperwork, but the car's condition and how it runs have proven the care it's received. The exhaust system is stock except for an Ansa rear section (sounds lovely w/ no drone on the highway)- it passed CA smog soon before my purchase. The suspension is uprated a bit over stock: 1" torsion bars. 20 mm front sway bar. 1" rear sway bar and International Auto sport springs w/ Konis (red) all around. The ride is compliant and controlled, very nice. Not jittery or too stiff in the least. The stock set-up must be pretty soft given how comfortable the current set-up is. Otherwise, this is a very stock GTV6. No unfortunate modifications or surprises. I wasn't interested in anything like that. The engine runs perfectly. The transmission shifts smoothly with zero synchro issues. The brakes work well. The pedal is firm and it stops straight. The drive home was wonderful. The car performed flawlessly and cruised home like a train. The sound of the 2.5 motor and general feel of the car is special. Since returning, I've replaced some little odds and ends.. the sunroof handle surround was replaced with a NOS piece (these are often cracked). I ordered custom sisal floor mats, too. The ignition switch was a bit sticky and was replaced. The paint was detailed w/ two grades of clay and then polished/protected w/ the two step Klasse product. It's proven to be a very nice car. Obviously cared for and cared about. It has it's owners manual (though without cover) and original tool kit. The interior is in remarkably good condition. I think because the previous owner had it in Maine for a long time (before moving to CA) without winter usage. So, no rust and the leather wasn't 'cooked' by intense heat. The dash is in good shape, the only cracks being short, tiny hairlines near each vent. There is a slight bow above the gauges in the center, though it's not easy to see in the photos. The rear bumper has a scuff on the left side (see photo). The wheel arches in the engine compartment are solid (important!). There was some surface flaking on the passenger side wheel arch (which was a concern at first..) but it was just touched up by the previous owner after confirming that there was no perforation or issue. The paint is in excellent condition. The previous owner had a professional paint job done about 10 years ago. He said that the car had received a fairly small, he described it as a "ball sized" shallow dent, in one of the rear quarter panels. When that was repaired, he had all of the paint done at the same time. It was done in the correct Alfa Red (it has the paint code sticker inside the hatch) and done nicely. I can't think of anything that doesn't work.. The windshield washers work. The electric mirrors work. The manual sunroof slides smoothly and with no leaks. The blower works fine, though the AC needs a charge. I never planned to use the car in either very warm (or cold) conditions, so didn't have it charged. The electric windows work- the passenger side is a bit slower than the other, but fine. All gauges work, including speedometer/odometer. Why would I sell such a car? Good question. The main reasons involve very limited garage space and my decision to embark on a Giulietta Spider restoration. I realized I can't have it all and need to do some focusing, Alfa-wise. My intention with the sale of the GTV6 is to treat the folks who are interested more as friends than just prospective buyers. I want the next owner to be as pleased w/ the car as I've been. Feel free to request any other photos and don't hesitate to email or give me a call with any questions (9:00am- 10:00pm CST). Thanks, Mike. (314) 454-9966
