Up for bid is a 1971 Buick Riviera with 163k two owner miles. Lifelong western car with an exceptionally solid body and a beautifully dry, solid underside. Relatively rare Riviera-only (for '71) bamboo cream in color outside with oyster interior. Power provided by the standard Buick 455 cubic inch V8 and TH400 automatic transmission - plenty of power. Base 2.93 open rear gears. Loaded up with lots of power goodies, ALL of which work. Clearly spent most of its life garaged, as it was when I found it, by a remarkable lack of weathering. One repaint, some very minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with age, but still very nice shape overall - very unmolested. Car looks as nice in person as in pics, and as you could imagine, attracts lots of attention as such. Runs and drives out absolutely beautifully - lots of newer brake & suspension parts. Car available for showing in Renton Fairwood area after 5:30 pm by appointment. Condition Report ENGINE: Runs on all eight cylinders without smoking, missing, ticking or knocking. Engine runs at proper temperature and there's no check engine light. Newer battery & good charging system, radiator about 1 year old. Recent oil change. Runs smooth & strong. TRANSMISSION: Performs flawlessly. Engages gears quickly and shifts through all three forward gears and reverse with good downshift and torque converter performance. Clean fluid with no burn odors. NO LEAKS, not even a seep from the front seal - parked in my garage for a month without a single drip or drop. Shifts great. EXTERIOR: Body: Body is in extremely nice shape. No body rust showing and the only body filler is a silver dollar size spot in front of each rear wheel. Has a couple very small door dings on the right rear quarter, visible only if you contort yourself into position to see them - too small to photograph. Another small ding is more obvious at the right front corner behind a small ding in the bumper. For its age, it's WAY above average. Paint: Paint is shiny and nice with no chips or scratches. A better than average quality repaint, there are a couple very small imperfections visible only up close and nothing unexpected - a couple sand marks on right front fender and painted over a couple chips around right front headlight and door jamb. Shiny, smooth. Above average, too. Other: Chrome bumpers are in good shape - rear is nearly perfect, front has a small ding on the right front corner mostly hidden by some aftermarket rub strips that weren't featured on '71's. Stainless side trim is nice with a couple small dings. Undercarriage is western solid with no salt scale, undercoated since new - you can scrape off small spots of undercoating and find VIRGIN metal underneath. Floors and trunk are SOLID with NO holes. Door jambs, trunk jamb, and underhood sheet metal are very nice in these hidden areas as seen in pics. Solid frame all around. There is a tiny rock chip in the windshield but no wiper scratches nor sandblasting. Side windows have small scratches from the guides. Rare Spider wheels are in great shape with no curb rash or pitting - car was originally a hubcap car and did not sport Buick chrome rally wheels anyway, so you're not missing anything but steel wheels. INTERIOR: The interior is in nice shape with minor normal wear for age. ORIGINAL cloth seats are in nice shape with some minor staining and a couple stitches consistent with age. Some carpet wear near driver's feet. Headliner is perfect, dash is perfect, package deck is perfect. Driver's door panel armrest has an amateurish patch over what was surely a crack at the driver's elbow, but presentable for daily driver use - all other door panels exceptional. Cigar lighter NEVER used - non-smoker's car. Buick rubber floormats in good shape. Overall, above average interior for age and miles. Note - I realized after I took pics that I hadn't installed the new rubber door seals, which have now been installed, but at least you can see that the seals aren't hiding rust. ELECTRICAL STUFF: All inspection items work (lights, button horn, wipers, etc.) All the power stuff works including RARE front cornering lamps, power windows, power seat, hot heat & COLD A/C, tilt wheel, remote driver's mirrors, trunk release,and rear defroster all work. AM radio works, too, but one speaker is shot. DRIVEABILITY: Drives out beautifully. Steering and suspension are TIGHT, alignment is dead on. Brakes work well with newer linings and rotors, no noise or notable vibration. Tires have about 70% tread remaining all around. Solid exhaust with no leaks in the pipes but there is a (VERY) slight leak at the joint from driver's manifold to main pipe - dual exhaust pipes are newer. Rear end is quiet with no lash, whine or noise. Quick off the line, smooth and quiet on the highway with adequate passing power. Very nice driving car - no issues.
