Up for your consideration is my 1985 Toyota LandCruiser BJ70 LX. This Landcruiser, one of 660 imported between 1985-1987 to Canada, is left hand drive, and has a 12-volt electrical system (with a 24-volt starter, as are all 1985 BJ70's imported to Canada). The BJ70 features a 3.4 liter, 4 cylinder 3B diesel engine. This Landcruiser has been modified with a Turbo Glide (http://www.turboglide.com.au) Garret GT25 turbocharger, increasing throttle response significantly (like, sports car response). The H55F 5-speed manual transmission provides excellent low-end and cruising power. Suspension seats are standard (if a little sqeaky). Front disk brakes and rear drums, power steering, factory AM/FM/cassette, split transfer case (LSD, no lockers). I purchased this LandCruiser 3 years ago from an enthusiast who imported it from Canada and who performed some major servicing including rebuilding the front axle and injectors; new cylinder head, precombustion chambers and primer pump were also installed at that time. I've added a new suspension, new alternator, installed some turbo gauges, and done regular oil changes, fuel filer changes, etc. Truck starts with some white smoke (typical), block heater improves cold weather starts. MPG in the mid to high teens, could be better with a thorough tune up-- The Good: - Turbocharged with the addition of a Turbo Glide turbo kit (by the PO) Garret Turbo, boost pressure and exhaust temp gauges present - Heystee Automotive (http://www.parabolicsuspension.com/)parabolic springs with Koni Heavy Track struts installed 2008. A little over 2" lift. - SOR custom brown seat covers. The interior looks great (see pics) - Front/Rear PTO available and in good working order - Body panels very presentable; rust bubbling at windsheild (see pic), some rust beginning to show at wheel wells, some behind right hand ambulance door - Heater strong, original radio working, NO A/C - 2 Optima Red batteries, 4 years old - Block heater - New alternator - 4WD high and low in good working condition. Original Aisin locking hubs. - New muffler (old one in pic) - New Old Man EMU steering damper - Good clutch. 3rd gear syncro replaced 2007, fluid changed The Not So Good: - Floor pan under driver is going fast and needs renewal - Frame surface rust is extensive and needs attention (see pics). Brake hard lines very crispy. - Turbo is leaking (?) exhaust gas, I notice it on startup - Tires have maybe 30% of tread left - Rear wiper not working - No skid plates - Running boards removed due to rust - Wheel wells rusty; need resto - Tach is flaky, may need new sender There are a number of web resources available which cater to the Land Cruiser community-- forums, aftermarket and OEM parts suppliers, etc.-- and although the BJ70 is extremely rare in the US, parts are readily available. From what I've read on some of the forums, the simplicity of the 3B engine make the BJ70 an excellent candidate for biodiesel conversion. I've run this vehicle on straight dino diesel since purchase... Vehicle is located in Nantucket, MA-- on Nantucket Island.
