Vehicle Detail
71 Flat Windshield Super Beetle Convertible, Selling this mostly restored Super Beetle as my father has passed away. He restored this car over the last year or so and only had the front end, (towers and steering), and the heater rails to go. The 1600 engine and transmission was completely rebuilt, runs like a top. New white paint, black interior is two years old, black top is less than three. New window rubber and most chrome is new. In the interest of full disclosure, this car should have the front end rebuilt before driving it. It drives but I would not drive it at road speeds. Clear title. This is a no-reserve auctionOn Oct-23-10 at 22:02:45 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer a few questions that have come up regarding this car. First, I fly airplanes and have restored mid-year Vettes and Mustangs. I don't pretend to know squat about VW Beetles. Before my dad passed away he told me that the front shock towers need to be rebuilt, especially the left side, the steering would have to be worked on, and that the heater rails, (channels), were rusted through underneath the car. He also said not to drive it on the road until the front end work was done and don't sell it to anyone without telling them that. The floor pans seem solid, they're covered by capet inside and coated with some black anti-corrosion application underneath. I seem to recall at some point that he said he thought the pans had been re-done before he bought it but to err on the conservative you may want to plan on replacing the floor pans. While he did some of the work himself he had it painted professionally, the engine and drive train were restored/rebuilt professionally and the top was professionally done. I have the top boot/cover. The car was dark green when he bought it and I don't think that was the original color but I really don't know any more than that. More than a few people have taken pot shots asking why this wasn't done or why that was, I guess they missed the part about him PASSING AWAY leaving me no opportunity to ask why he did the restoration the way he did. I've been as forthright as I can and stated what I know he said regarding this car, I'm selling it for my mother and with all the new/restored stuff and a rebuilt, low miles engine the $2,000 starting price is more than fair. If you don't like what you've heard or you're leary of what's left to do then you have every right to not bid.
