The Thing went on sale in North America in 1973. A four speed manual was the only transmission available. The interior was the very definition of stripped. The only instrumentation was a speedometer that housed a fuel gauge on its dial and the glove box was really just a glove box as it lacked a door. VW also boasted that the Thing's cabin could be hosed out. My initial intention was to restore this Thing but with winter approaching and no garage space I have decided to sell this wonderful and fun convertible. I've never registered the car but it comes with a clear title. The odometer reads just over 8000 miles but Im sure the car has more than that. It could be 108k. As you can see in the pictures I put in a brand new exhaust and the brakes were replaced. The car starts first time every time and drives very well. Shifting is very easy. Tires are very good but the hubcaps are wire wheels and are not original to the car. Thing hubcaps are available for less than $20 each. As you can see from the pictures the car's paint is tired and probably needs a re-paint. There is some surface rust but nothing major(check the fender pictures and bottom of doors). The convertible top is in very good condition just in need of a very good cleaning. The interior seats are in excellent shape. The front windshield and rear window are in very good shape. The plastic door windows are faded and scratched. For the most part I would call this car a nice driver that needs a little TLC. A $500 deposit will be needed within 48 hours of winning the auction. They are in very good shape. Once again the only rust issues are on the bottom of the doors as can be seen in some of the pictures and some very superficial issues around the fenders as you can see in the pictures.
