Vehicle Detail
***NO RESERVE*** Up for auction is a big block 1972 Dodge Dart which has yet to be finished. It has a 440 stuffed under the fiberglass hood and a 727 backing it up. I purchased this car last August, but I need to sell it because I am moving and, unfortunately, I won't have room for it where I'm going. The car had a good amount of work done on it before I purchased it, but I have had to correct some of it over the course of owning it. I have been told by the previous owner that the 440 (which was pulled from a motor home) was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago, along with the transmission. I have been unable to verify this, as I have not taken them apart, though I have checked them out as well as I could have. The heads look really clean with the valve covers off, the timing chain is pretty stiff and nothing is amiss anywhere else as far as I can tell. The transmission has yet to be filled with fluid and run, so there is not much I can say about it beyond that. Here is an outline of how the car looks overall: The good: Rebuilt carburetor (Holley 650 w/ vacuum secondaries), new water pump, AAR fiberglass hood (WITH THE PROPER LOW-TENSION STYLE HOOD SPRINGS), Schumacher conversion kit, including headers and motor mounts (the 1973 sub-frame spool-type), air conditioning (which actually fits nicely because the fiberglass hood has a scoop on it), power steering, power brakes with a new booster / master cyl. assembly, custom fit drive shaft w/fresh u-joints, new front calipers, pads, brake hoses and lines, new ball joints, new idler arm, new upper control arm bushings (polyurethane), new transmission pan w/drain plug, new polyurethane transmission mount, new front shocks with polyurethane bushings, new air cleaner and valve covers w/ PCV system, new Accel ignition coil, new custom oil dipstick, new Bosch fuel pump (compatible with today's blended fuels!) and lots of other items. I have an entire folder full of receipts which will go with the car so you'll know exactly what was purchased new. This big block Dart, by the way, is the only one I know of which has power steering, power brakes AND air conditioning with a 440 in it (440's take up more space than a 400 or 383 because the block is actually taller). It's a tight squeeze, but it fits pretty nicely. This car also DOES have the big-bolt pattern and Rallye rims (which come with the car as well). I should also mention that it has BRAND NEW Just Suspension 1" torsion bars too, so it will actually handle well with the added weight of the 440 (this was originally a 318 / 904 car). This Dart was also equipped to have a 26" RADIATOR originally, NOT a 22", and an aftermarket unit of that size will easily keep the big block running cool. I DO, BY THE WAY, have the front bumper and the brackets, and they go with the car. The rear bumper was never removed and is also intact. The bad: The previous owner was building this Dart as a quarter mile car and did not put a lot of effort into the body work. The car looks pretty good overall, but I KNOW there is a lot of Bondo under the primer. If you want the car to be perfect, be prepared to address the issues that await. Repairs were made to the quarter panels, fenders and the area around the rear window, and they will have to be cleaned up to some degree. As I said, the car looks pretty good on the surface, but it could use some proper body repair. The floors and trunk could use a bit of help, but they are definitely salvageable. Apart from this, it needs to be wired up under the hood, the rear brake lines need to be run, and the plumbing for the fuel system needs attention. The Chrysler 7 1/4" rear will also need to be replaced with a stronger unit if you plan on doing any hard driving with it (the power of the 440 will eventually spell doom for that small axle). It will also need a large radiator to cool the 440 (but I know where you can get one at a GREAT price). Although it should not take too much to complete, I simply will not be able to finish it before I have to move. You will, by the way, be getting EVERYTHING I purchased for this car which I did not yet install which will be mostly small stuff....new hardware, the emblems, a door hinge kit (for both the doors), and some other assorted items. Of course, if you have any questions whatsoever, you can call me at 484-764-5988, or simply send them along via e-mail. If you choose to purchase the car, I may be able to help transport it. I have a van with a tow hitch, and if the right deal is struck, I may decide to deliver it. If you arrange your own transportation, I will be available to help you load it, and I may be able to get a couple of people to help things along if needed. The reserve is VERY reasonable and is WELL BELOW the "buy it now" price. I will try to make the best deal I can for the right buyer.....I'm pretty flexible that way. PLEASE NOTE.......CAR IS FOR SALE LOCALLY and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Good luck, and happy bidding!
