Vehicle Detail
The Mercedes W123 Diesel Coupes are fast becoming collectible cars, and are still as classy, capable, and practical for everyday use as when they were new. This 1981 example is in excellent condition throughout, always a California car, rust-free and accident-free. Its original mileage of only 216M is quite low for these diesels and can go another 250M without major repairs with proper maintenance. The car runs superbly, without fault. It starts immediately, idles smoothly (well, as smoothly as a diesel will idle), and accelerates better than any other non-turbo diesel I’ve driven. In fact, it feels like a turbo and is faster than some. It runs cool, even on hot days with the A/C on (which, by the way, works and blows cold). No, this car has not been converted to run on WVO. But you can run biodiesel in it (as with any diesel). The transmission was replaced a few years ago and shifts properly. There are no fluid leaks. Brakes are superb as well, and the suspension is smooth, quiet, and handles great. Tires are almost new, fitted to original Mercedes alloy wheels. The body is in excellent condition, but even though the paint (original color but repainted in the past) looks perfect in the photos, there are small chips, scratches, etc., that do not show except upon much closer viewing. The light yellow color is most accurately presented in the third photo down (left rear). My photos were shot in different lighting and the color looks different in some. The interior is beautiful, the tan upholstery in supple and fine condition throughout, the dash recovered and perfect, the headliner is excellent. The carpets in front are showing a bit of wear but I’m including a set of floormats. The original, rare Becker Europa AM/FM/Cassette is still in place and operates perfectly – and there’s a Sony 10-disc changer in the trunk with a remote in the car to operate it. The polished wood trim is in very good condition throughout – far better than most cars of this vintage. All electric windows work, as does the electric sunroof. Even the vacuum-operated central locking works properly! The original owner’s manual and warranty booklet are still in the glovebox, and the title is clear and in my name. The car is an exceptional example but still a used, older car and sold as-is without warranty. I’ve described it to the best of my ability but older cars require maintenance and issues can arise at any time. That said, I would not hesitate to drive it across country if I had to. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
