Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a virtually unmolested 1959 Austin Healey 3000 MK 1 with 17,939 miles which I believe to be correct from the condition of the engine and running gear. I have owned 14 Healeys and this might be the best "driver" in the United States as it sits right now. With some work it can be a "Best in Show" winner, and as it sits it might win the "People's Choice". It was delivered to a Fort Worth, TX dealer in July, 1959 and has spent it's life in a no snow location. It is believed to have only two owners before me. The original color was Black with a Colorado Red cove according to the British Heritage Certificate which comes with the car. All the numbers match with the exception of the engine number which I cannot find. The Colorado Red cove color was changed about 15 years ago to Burgundy when a professional restoration was completed. The car in in excellent overall shape. The engine runs strong with no smoke and the engine compartment is clear of all grease and oil. One month ago all fluids and filters were changed and the starter was replaced with a new high-torque unit. The old starter comes with the car and still works fine. The transmission shifts perfectly and the electric overdrive works exactly as it should. The suspension is tight and the steering is precise. The steering column is adjustable and has a beautiful wood rim Moto Lita wheel in perfect condition. All instruments, lights, and gauges work properly. The windshield glass is clear with no chips or delamination. The top is in great conditionn along with the side curtains which are included. The rear plastic window is clear of any discoloration. The car comes with a very good tonneau cover. The wire wheels are chrome with Vredstein tires with plenty of tread left. The interior is in excellent shape as you can see from the pictures. The chrome is in fine shape with no rust. There is only one tiny dent on the body (that is hard to find) on the left rear fender. Tools and handbook are included in the sale. Finally, there is NO evidence of ANY rust in the car body, floor panels, frame or dog legs ! So, what would I do to make it into a show winner? The paint on the Burgundy part of the body (the cove area) has several chips around the doors and fenders along with one chip in the left upper fender and a paint crack on the trunk lid. I have tried to show these in the photos. This dosent have to be done right away or maybe never . Other than that, there is a small tear in the carpet right at the shift lever that can easily be sewn up. I have put a very reasonable reserve price on the car and someone is going to get an excellent Austin Healey !!
