Vehicle Detail

1960 FORD THUNDERBIRD. California Car. This TBIRD has a lot of history with it. It appears to have had one california owner from at least 1974 till 2005 when it was sold to a collector in Oklahoma. I purchased this car from his estate. I have only driven it on the road once and it did well, tires are old and should be replaced before considering it a driver, but it runs shifts steers and stops well. I have decided to pare down my collection and since this car has just been sitting in the garage, I will offer it up for sale. What attracted me to this car is the new (or like new) interior, including the Dash. for years I wanted one of these but every restorable car I saw had a collapsed padded dash! The interior is correct for the year and looks very very nice. The paint is 20' driver quality. there are two shades of white on the car and you may be able to see it in the pictures, to be nice, the car will need paint and some repairs to poor body work done whenever it was restored in California. The car has minimal rust, having lived in California (still sports it black plate on the front). then Oklahoma, but there is signs of some rust repair that could have been done better. see photos. Engine runs well. Gas smells old. needs more driving! Takes a long time to start so I think carb may be drying out when setting. I have only run it once every 2 or 3 months. The battery is good and it starts, just crank and pump till it catches. Maybe I have gotten too used to fuel injection! There is large stack of receipts from its california life, including engine rebuild, front end work, etc over the years. The california owner spent a lot of money on this car and it was in the shop quite a bit in the 70s. I guess 15 to 20 year old cars need a lot of maintenance or maybe its true that they don't build them like they used to. The engine does not smoke or make noises and runs very well. the trans shifts but leaks while parked and will leave a few drops overnight which adds up to a lot in 3 months. Other issues: Not to concentrate on negatives, but being on ebay since 1998, I feel it is more important to point out known flaws than brag about the good stuff. Every used car has flaws, especially 50 year old cars. Some choose not to point them out, hiding behind a "come see it before you bid" disclaimer (I recommend previewing if possible, but understand it is not possible so here are significant flaws I have noticed: Windhsield is cracked, doesnt affect drivers visability. Right side wiper cable is broken, only drivers windhshield wiper works Radio does not work. Drivers power window does not work, passenger does, rears work sporatically. As mentioned, there are a few places on the body that need some reworking next time it gets painted. a few bubles on the left rocker, bad bodywork on left rear quarter panel and the front edge of the hood is rused underneith and apparently has been patched along the front edge. looks ok when the hood is down, but eventually this rust will come back. This car is not a rust bucket, very solid, especially under the car. I don't have a lift but I stuck a camera under a few places to show typical condition. This is a much more complete description than I got when I bought it so you can bid knowing what you are getting as much as possilbe. I know when I buy on ebay, lacking full information, I assume the worse and bid accordingly. My logic is that a more fair (for both of us ) price will resule if we are both knowlegable about the car. SO please ask any quesitons prior to bidding. This car can be put on the road for the cost of a new set of tires (just for safety the tires have trad and hold air but are probably 20 years old). The other issues can be repaired as you go. A solid number 3 car. I have seen number 5 cars at 2500 to 3000. it would take at least 5000 to get these cars to number 3 condition. Number 3 cars are the most fun, you can drive them, leave them in a parking lot and not panic if a shopping cart bumps your $5000 paint job!
