Vehicle Detail

this is my 72 Vega, a real California car (provable) with a well done (and reversible) and very tidy V8 conversion. The bolt-in conversion was done with NO CUTTING OR TUBBING on an incredibly solid car. Therre are a number of conversions out there that are patched-together rust buckets, and they are priced accordingly. This car is not one of them.....The only evidence of prior-rust found on the entire car is the (quite well done) steel patch on the lower area of the DS-frt fender (pictured). It was cut-off from an original fender and needs grinding/finishing.. You can drive it as is to local Cruise Nights OR the occasional Stoplight-Gran-Prix OR restore it back to a stock configuration with a pontiac Iron Duke I4 motor. NEW in last 12 mos: all hard/soft brake lines and Master-cyl, front pads/rear shoes, frt-shocks-Monroe, rear shocks-KYB- Gas, Tires, 2.5 in. exhaust system with FF-headers front-to-back, Ultima Battery, rear bumper, door mirrors, weatherstripping for hatch NIB, door/hatch locksets NIB, elec-fan NIB, wipers, fuel pump, detroit-locker rear with 4.56 gears, door-handles NIB, and all new fasteners for windshield trim/hatch trim/door panels and so much more. Even though the parts are up to 12 months old, they only have Sunday morn coffee-runs nad a couple of cruise-nights on em, still new really. POR-15 coating applied on a clean/unrusted car-bottom, then covered with Rustolieum-grey for lasting protection. POR-15 done on inside floors also.Note the smooth and unrusted bottom in pics. This is how chevy should have done it.....remember the old joke "if your Vega is not rusting then look around carefully, its still on the production line" This is where a troublefree toy really begins. The W-W/heater motor/lights/turnsignals/brakelights all work, even the OH light and the little-light in the shifter housing work, but the only stock gague working is the gas-gauge. the speedocable is found tied-off underneath but not connected and the three white gauges would move (after installing the COSWORTH dash) to the IECO-console which already has three holes of the correct size for them.. CAR HAS: Chevy S-10 5-bolt conversion front/back, 14 X 6 rallys with big-and-littles, frt/rear sway-bars, HD aluminium radiator and trans cooler, TILT-WHEEL, better buckets, 3-spd TH350 trans and so much more. The previous owner explained that the engine is just a "warmed-over", low- milage SBC 350 with a very mild cam, dual-plane edlebrock intake and a 750 holley carb.with an aluminium water pump. Nothing radical, just reliable and quick, Don't forget that this car has the same weight as one of my old MGBs but triple the horsepower and torque, it could handle taller-gears without losing a step., It even has greasable-U-joints on the custom driveshaft, overall a very tidy, well thought out piece of work. and the conversion is all bolt in with the original mounts still there. Now I have accumulated all the "bits" from a Cosworth Vega necessary to turn the car into a "pre-production Prototype" mule that got away from the proving grounds at Teaneck NJ where the experimental models were built/tested (Ha). This would really keep em guessing at the car-shows and cruise nights. Such a car might have actually existed, think of the XP-corvette with the rear engine that is still around. I hope I have not offended a Purist out there, these cars are all about the fun-factor. The Cosworth parts: complete dash, horn-buttom, door-handles-inserts, White door-panels, head-liner, arm-rests... are all in good condition but not installed (see pics). You can follow through on this concept or sell em on Ebay. (rather expensive, they were) AS RARE AND RUST FREE AS THIS IS it could be put back to showroom stock while retaining the things that make it cool/stop/handle better than an ordinary Vega and .....save fuel? .... My plans for the car had been, before my age (69 years young), got in the way, was to replace the 4:56 gears with a stock set of 3:07 S-10 gears, replace the 750 carb with an edlebrock 550 cfm, install JEGS aftermarket cruise-control, and have a highway cruiser that would go to other cities for club events without taking out a second mortgage for the gas. Overall, this is a well built V8 Vega that you get to choose the final color for (think 72 Camaro Hugger Orange) but you will still need carpets and a 4-speaker stereo. Someone once said that the least-expensive way to get into an unusual car is to buy someone else's almost completed project......and this still rings true. At my age I find AC and PW and high MPG to be necessities, so I bought (blush) a miata. So time to sell.... And the tags are 5-year tags, no more emissions tests. I also have lots of books/articles for the car. Also mint trim for the WS and Hatch and the missing piece for the drivers door plus IECO console for the 3-white gauges.... . You would be hard-pressed to find a nicer more rust-free MINI-CAMARO Vega for the money. and as regards the BIN price?.... "you snooze, you lose" is the operative comment. So buy or bid as you like, and ask questions, my CRS memory slips a bit, like an old powerglide chevy tranny but I can usually recall whatever is needed with the proper question. On Sep-03-10 at 03:41:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Hi John, No I cannot verify that the car has a "very mild cam" on the inside. Not sure how anyone could? The previous owner told me that the engine was so equipped. I could verify the "dual plane edlebrock" however and other items that can be seen on the outside of the motor. The car has been good to me and It runs strong like an SBC should so.....if you like it, buy it, thanks
