?Rare Limited Production 1958 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. One of Only "2134" and One of 62 Known in Exsistence Today. It Was Also History-Making, Becoming The First Individual Model Line (as opposed to an entire company) To Earn Motor Trend's Car Of The Year honors. Plus ! One Of The Lowest Production Years Of Thunderbird Convertibles Ever Produced.? Production Started in December of 1957 and Ended In Sept of 1958. Production of the 1958 Convertible Models Was Delayed Due to Various Reasons, And The Convertible Wasn't Officially Introduced To The Public Until June, 1958. This, in Part, Accounts For The Very Low Production Numbers of the 1958 Convertibles. She Was Purchased BRAND New in Atlanta Georgia. Where She Has Remained With The Same family For 52 Years. I've Been Informed by The Original Owner. The 59,401 Miles On The Odometer Are Correct. Body Is Sound and in Great Shape . If You Look Hard Enough You May Find a Tiny Blister or Two at Her Base. The Chassis You Can Eat Off Of. Floor Pans and Trunk Pans Are Almost Perfect. Very Solid And Clean Underneath. You Can Tell When Looking at Her Chassis She Was From The South and Garaged Kept. Front to Back New Stainless Steel Exhaust (expensive) , New Mufflers,Chrome Exhaust Tips and New Fuel Tank. The Red and White Interior Was Completed Restored in 1996. It Looks Great ! Chrome Accents inside The Car Shows Well Too. Convertible Top Was Replaced The Same Year (1996) And Looks Good With No Rips or Tears and a Clear Back Window. The Convertible Top Functions Perfectly. Strong Power Top That Goes Up and Down Effortlessly and Stows Away Nicely In The Trunk. Michelin Tires are on The Car Now However They Are Several Years Old And Should Be Replaced. Exterior Color is Winterset White. She Has Had One Repaint Over The Years. The Coverage That Exists Now Does Not Due This Car Justice. She Deserves a Nice 2 Stage Paint. Currently it Has a Single Stage Enamel. She Still Looks Great at 5 Feet But The Old Paint Does Have Some Touch Up. No Bondo On The Car To Be Found. She Has a Great Foundation For a New Paint Application. The Engine is The Original 352 V8 That Runs Like a Sewing Machine. Great Sounding Motor. The Motor Was Rebuilt 14 Years Ago. She Starts Right Up With a Bump of The Key. No Blow By or Leaks. The Transmission is The Original and Currently Not Shifting In to High Gear. I Asked My Mechanic About This and He Indicated it Was Possibly the Modulator Or Vacuum Removed. He Explains: “sometimes the rubber hose at the modulator will rot away. Also, if the modulator is ruptured it can suck fluid into the engine causing it to smoke out of the exhaust so it's possible it may have been plugged for that reason. I know that the trans. will not shift if the modulator is bad or it has no vac. The car needs to be raised on a lift or jacked up so you can get under it. Some modulators take a special thin wrench to loosen and some have a regular little bracket that holds them in place. I would check the vac. line first” End Quote.
