Vehicle Detail
Hi everyone! This auction is for my 1982 Honda FT500 Ascot. If you're looking at this listing you're probably familiar with the FT. If you're not, this is Honda's idea of a flat track racer. It makes a nice street bike. It's lightweight, handles well, and has lots of low-end torque. I bought this bike at the start of the season, intending to make my 6 mile commute on it. It was great for that, but I've since moved about 75mi. away from my job and this bike is no fun on the freeway. It's in amazing condition for the year and is a blast around town or on backroads. The guy I bought it from said it was used as a commuter for the previous ten years or so. Whoever had it obviously took care of it and stored it inside. This bike is clean for a 1982. Physiclly it's in excellent condition. The paint is original and still shiny everywhere. There's a 1" or so scrape at the bottom of the tank near the seat which was my fault; leaned it up against a nail in the garage. I put some touch-up paint on that. There are minor scrapes on each side of the red fiberglass seat surround - looks like the previous owner had a cargo rack attached which rubbed against the bodywork. The decals are perfect and the original seat has no rips or tears. There's almost no rust anywhere. Mechanically, everything's working well. The motor runs and sounds great and the 5-speed transmission is smooth. Tires are recent; the speedo cable and grips are new. There are no weird noises or smoke. It does weep just a little bit of oil at the head; but not much. This is a common issue with the XL500/FT500 motors. In 500 miles, the oil hasn 't gone below the "add" line, but it is there. These FT500s were known for weak starters (actually starter actuation gears, I think) but this one was rebuilt (by the previous owner, along with brakes and tune-up) is working perfectly. Occasionally it takes a few tries to start so a carb cleaning may be in order eventually, but just as often it starts up on the first try. It runs and idles perfectly fine. That's a cold start shown in my Youtube video: This bike has a clear MA title in my name. Sorry, I'm not a dealer/collector and don't have access to a trailer; you must pick the bike up in Exeter, NH within 7 days of auction end. A $200 deposit via PayPal will be due within 24 hours of auction end; balance due in CASH at time of pickup. Mileage currently 31,3xx but may go up a bit as I still take it out occasionally. Please don't hesitate to ask my any questions if I've missed anything. Thanks for looking!
