Vehicle Detail

This is an opportunity to own an extremely low mileage, original California car. With a little effort, this could be one of the nicest X/19's on the planet! The car runs and drives fine. We just replaced both the brake and clutch master cylinders. I purchased the car earlier this year from a person in Fairfield, California. The story he told was that the car was purchased new by a good friend of his who drove the car for a couple of years then parked it in his garage in Discovery Bay, California. The owner gave the car to the person I bought it from a couple of years ago, who got it completely functional but then lost interest and put it up for sale. I was interested because it was so low mileage and so clean that I thought that it would make an interesting project to make it a super clean, survivor car for show. However, I have finally realized that 21 cars is too many and I hope to sell 8 cars in the next few weeks in an effort to get down to a core group of cars to maintain. The car is really almost unbelievable. When you open the front and back hoods they look literally like new. Although the seams in the drivers seat have failed, the door panels, dash, rear panel and under the targa panel are perfect. The carpets have deteriorated deep in the footwell and should be replaced but a set of mats would make them acceptable for now. The body is extremely clean and free of rust. There are several shallow dents in the body believed to be the result of boxes in the original owner's garage stacked on top and around the car. You may be able to have a paintless dent removal person take most of the dents out and save what appears to be the original paint but there are too deep of dents on the front hood and the passenger door to be taken out paintless. The car runs great once it is warmed up. It will not remain running while it is cold. I removed the automatic choke and it was caked with something which I cleaned-out but it did not solve the cold running problem. I suspect that the choke needs to be replaced. Although we just replaced both master cylinders, the brake light remains on which indicates that we did not get all of the air out. The brakes seem to work perfectly, though. I paid $1800 for the car and have about $2400 in it total but will sell it to the highest bidder. Do not bid unless you intend to follow-through with the sale. If you have less than 5 positive feedbacks, do not bid until you have contacted me. The car handles light a go-kart. These cars in this condition do not come along every day and I predict that these mid-engine masterpieces will be real collectors items in the future, especially when Fiat returns to North America later this year. Bid high and bid often! I just drove the car 4 miles. Once it was at 180 degrees, it ran great, has good power and idled great. Steering was dead on and it stopped well. I forgot to mention that it appears that the car has a/c although it is not working. I would not plan on driving it long distances without changing the timing belt (one is included with the sale along with a Fiat manual) as it is unknown when it was last changed, if ever. I also just replaced the radiator cap (cracked) and now there is a water leak. Photos show water stains on oil pan so I think that it has been leaking for some time but without radiator pressure it was not obvious. It appears to be a water pump ($45 from International) and could be replaced with the timing belt, which does not look that hard in the manual. The car will sell cheaply with no reserve so there is a big upside here. Better you fix than me and add to sell price. Joe
