1982 Volvo 242 Turbo Drive or Restore This is a 1982 Volvo 242 Turbo VIN# YV1AX4729C1215304 with 259794 miles, to Drive or Restore.4 Speed Manual transmission with electronic overdrive. Silver with blue interior. I purchased this car four years ago with the intention of restoring it. It was so much fun to drive that I ended up driving it instead. It is a rock solid, reliable, daily driver. I purchased the car in good condition and then improved it even more. On one hand this car is in excellent condition, on the other hand it is showing its age. I can t keep it so I am hoping it finds a good new home. It starts every morning no matter how hot or cold, it just wants to run; it does not blow smoke or make any weird mechanical noises. Passes Colorado Emissions For most of this past year it has not been driven. I can’t prove any maintaince before I bought it, but because I originally planned to keep it did many of the basics; the mantaince items listed are all less than four years old. The Mechanical To me it looks mostly original, unmolested. The Fan and fan clutch have been replaced by an electric fan (I did not make this modification). It works great; has never over heated on me. Plus I have the original parts to put back. There is an MSD 6A Ignition and coil. It is very well installed. The turbo is oil and water cooled. This car never had an intercooler. It runs strong and clean without burning oil or smoking. New or recently replaced Battery, Water Pump, Thermostat, Timing belt, all accessory belts, Windshield wipers, Front wheel bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints, Steering rack boots, Strut bearings, KYB Red internally adjustable Shocks all the way around. Front brake pads and a fresh turn on the front rotors. Turbo Waste Gate, Tune up, Fresh Alignment. Power steering fluid change. New turbo waste gate actuator. New exhaust mid section. Stud less snow tires with 2 seasons on them. Some Positives MSD 6A Ignition and Coil Electric Radiator Fan, the original fan and shroud are included. Sony Stereo (Mini Disc, 6 Disc –CD, CD-R-MP3- Changer, 4 Ch Alpine amp, Audiobahn Speakers) sounds great. The front door panels have not been cut; the speakers are mounted in the factory holes. I don’t have the original speakers but I do have the grills. Fresh oil change and tune up. I have a box of parts of the things removed (fan, fan clutch, and shroud Etc.) The trunk has all of the carpet and spare tire cover. The Bad ISV not regulating. I replaced the Idle Stabilizing Valve with no change. The car idles great, however on very cold days it will sometimes stall until it goes off of the cold start. Window Tint has some kicks and dings in it. The tint on front windows have a vertical drag mark from the stock door speakers that were not installed correctly and they lightly damaged the tint. Rust: Yes there is one major hole on the passenger side, behind the rear wheel. Bubbled metal caused by the mud flaps on both rear’s and there is rust behind the doors on the body. I can’t find any rust on the frame, Nor can I find any signs of a collision but there has been a partial repaint. I would not call it a rust bucket but there is some rust. There is not any rust in the floor pan or fame. Parking lot –depression- on passenger side behind door. There is about a 6 inch long ½ inch deep depression where another car grazed it in a parking lot. There is no broken paint and the Paint less Repair place said it could be fixed. Sunroof. The sunroof does not leak but if it has been parked in the rain, the sunroof will drip when you first get start driving. One of the rear plastic seatbelt covers has deteriorated and crumbled. The passenger side electric window sometimes will not roll the window back up, but the driver’s controls always roll it up, down has never been a problem Missing black trim cover on passenger side rear quarter Cracked windshield: The view is not obstructed. The crack is about 4 inches from the bottom and runs across the entire length of the windshield, no spider webs. Cracked dash. There are several cracks in the dash. Driver’s seat won’t tip forward. The Air Conditioner will work but it has a sloe leak and is not currently charged. The wheels all have some sort of imperfection; Curb checks, scrapes, tarnished metal, and some minor bends. They all balance out just fine but sometimes you can feel a light shimmy thru the steering wheel. The sun visor clips are broken. Rear seat has been hand re-sown along the seam in the center Section, it is holding so/so. The seam is not ripped but the factory stitching is gone With all of that said it seems like there is more bad than good, however it runs down the road real nice, it drives and handles like a dream. I love this car and have tried my best to care for it with regular oil changes, preventative maintenance and keeping it inside. I know you can’t be here to drive it so please; please ask questions, I want you know what you are getting. I have done my best to describe it here, but I know that many things are subjective so if you need clarification on something or if I missed something importuned to you don’t hesitate to ask. I don’t want to make any guarantees, this car is sold as is, but I would jump in it and drive it anywhere without hesitation so I believe that you could fly in and drive it home, but again it is sold as is. Some time in the reporting history someone made a clerical error entering the information, the mileage showing on the odometer is the actual mileage; 250K+ miles and still going strong is a testament to how well these cars are built. It has has been driven enough to have at least one tank of gas run thru it ever month. It is not suffering from lack of use. I only put 91 gas in the tank since I have owned it. On Aug-14-10 at 08:46:16 PDT, seller added the following information: The trim strips around the the glass was factory black, not shiny chrome. Much of the black has faded revealing the silver metal underneath. The trim has faded, worse in some places than others. The picture of the windshield makes it look as if a piece might be missing on the passenger side, that is not the case. The black on drivers side has almost totaly faded to reveal the silver.
