Vehicle Detail
If you have a rusted or damaged 230, 250, or 280SL, this is the item for you. A body restoration on one of these cars can easily cost $15,000 and up. I purchased this car in 2003 with the intention of transferring the necessary components from a wrecked 280SL that I have. As usual, that never happened and other projects have taken priority. The other day, a friend reminded me that I will probably not live to the ripe old age of 500 in order to complete all of my projects. The odds are that he is right, so I'm reluctantly parting with one. What we have here is a 230SL rolling body with suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires. This sale only includes what you see in the pictures. If you don't see in the photo's, it is NOT included. As far as I can see, the previous owner had the rust repaired with steel and painted pearl white (but not a finish coat). Unfortunately, the past 7 years of storage have resulted in numerous stratches and scrapes, and a few cracks (the worst one is pictured). There is no sign of crash damage, and the under side of the body is straight and very solid. As you can see the floors are original. Additionally, I was told that the brakes were redone, which seems to be the case, but it has been sitting for a long time so you should probably figure on redoing them. All four shock absorbers are new. The tires were new, but because of the long term storage, they are weather-checked and should be replaced. This car is equipped with front disc brakes and was originally a stick shift car. You could not repair or restore one of these body shells for this price. I have a clear Pennsylvania title in the dealership's name in hand. THIS CAR IS BEING SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS. There is no warranty either expressed or implied. You are responsible for all shipping. It must be picked up at, and the sale will take place here in Pennsylvania. You may call me at 570-740-7007. Before you place a bid, check with your significant-other, your banker, and anyone else you have to ask because your successful bid establishes a binding contract to purchase this car. It is not a casual commitment for you to come and inspect the car. You are committing to purchase it AS-IS, no exceptions. I urge you or your representative to come and inspect it prior to bidding. Simply call me for an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. The buyer must pay a $500 down payment by paypal within 24 hours of the close of the auction. The balance is due within 7 days of the close of the auction by cash or bank wire transfer only.
