Vehicle Detail
****PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY**** Presented for sale is a 1971 Buick Gran Sport 455 Stage 1. As authenticity is most important, I will cover this topic first. Build sheet was found in the car but it is 3 digits off the actual VIN. This was very common with buicks and unfortunately, this car falls into this category. Engine is a service replacement installed in 1971 shortly after the car was purchased. It has no stampings except for one that designates it as a 71 service replacement(all castings listed below). Auto transmission is NOT original. Engine Block casting # 1238861. Engine Stamp found under driver side head(behind power steering pump) - B1E08575(Decodes as service replacement dated 1971). Intake manifold - 1236403. Heads - 1237661. Carburetor - 7041242. Distributor - 1112016. Being that the build sheet found is not correct for this car, and the fact that there is no VIN on engine or transmission, there is no way to document this car as a stage 1. Obviously, it is quite possible that it is, I just cant present it as so since I have no proof. I have sold more than one car here with 100% feedback so full dissclosure is the goal. Now, paper trail and documentation aside, I have no reason to think this is not an original stage 1 car. It surely is optioned as one. After doing some research I found that only A/C equiped GS's as well as Stage 1 cars came with HD cooling which can be seen by the dual groove alternator pulley. This car has no factory A/C, but does have the dual groove alternator pulley and specific HD water pump. Thus HD cooling.....only available on stage 1 and A/C cars. Other factory options... Rally gauges & sport wheel, buckets/console, AM/FM with rear speakers, map light, trunk light, N25 exhaust tips, front/rear spoiler, disk brakes and a 3.42 posi rear. And all wrapped in tripple black!! The condition of this car is stunning. The black paint is gorgeous and I know hard it is to get a NICE black finish. Arrow straight with no waves, dimples, runs or cracks. Gorgeous from 10 feet to 6 inches. Now its not absolute perfection as there is a pin dot here and there from what looks to be dirt/debris that landed on the car before the paint/clear was applied. VERY small and not noticable unless I point it out. Otherwise smooth/straight as glass with not a swirl in sight. Vinyl top is perfect with no bubbles anywhere. Body has no rust and no bubbling. No bondo in this car either. All chrome is super nice, and all trim is just as nice. Interior is perfect. Seats are as new with no weak or leaning areas in the springs. All gauges, lights and accessories work. All courtesy lighting also works. Sail panels as well as under dash. Now on to how the car runs....pretty much as new is a good way to describe it. It is 100% stock with not a single modification. It will start at the drop of a dime and idle on the choke until kicked down. When warm it will stay at 650 or so in P and 500-550 in D just as spec'd in the 1971. Tight motor with no issues, ticks or smoke. Transmission is also great. Firm shifts and no issues. Drives great with no vibrations or shakes. No pulling and nothing to really talk about. 20mph or 70mph.....smooth as glass. Wheels are like new and tires are brand new. In order to get a true appreciation for the condition of this car you have to follow the provided link and view the almost 100 pictures posted. Please take the time to do so as a picture is worth a 1000 words. This car is trully SPECTACULAR inside and out!! Oh...and no leaks anywhere!! Will answer all your questions so please dont hesitate to ask. Or at least lower it as much as I could. Ebay would only let me go down to $16,000 as there are already active bids. I have sold a few nice cars with no reserve and they turned out ok. Gamble... but we'll roll the dice and see where she goes. Please ask if you have questions and DO NOT bid unless you are a serious buyer. If you have 0 feedback, please contact me prior to bidding. Once again, reserve is down to $16,000. Good luck!! This car is SUPER nice and will not dissapoint. On Aug-06-10 at 12:37:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Video of this car now posted on YouTube. Please take the time to look at it. Shows the car from every angle, as well as how it runs. Good luck to all and please remember.....high bid wins the car, so please do not bid if you do not intend to buy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcc4BU1UzT8On Aug-09-10 at 03:30:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Have had a few questions on this so will post here for all to see. This is a true 455 Gran Sport. It is only the Stage1 option that I can not document. All the numbers and options on the car are Stage 1 correct. Distributor, Carburetor, HD cooling, front/rear spoiler, N25 exhaust....etc. Very possibly a real Stage1 car. No black/white paper trail so I can not guarantee it's authenticity. Good Luck!! and AGAIN....only BID if you are going to buy. Someone will get a great car so lets do this right!!
