When’s the last time you saw an ’84 Cutlass Ciera, let alone one with such low mileage? This particular car was purchased new at Nelson Chevy-Olds in Tyrone, PA, which is about 20 miles away from my location. It comes with the original bill of sale, delivery sheet, pre-inspection checklist, Oldsmobile cassette tape, locking wire hub tools, and all the original owners manuals, including a copy of the original title from 1984. I purchased the car from the original owner who recently lost her license due to age. She kept the car in a heated garage all its life. The condition of the car is amazing. This is a very comfortable car and drives very nice. It’s powered by a 3.0 V-6 which runs well and also economical. The car still smells and feels like a new car. It even has all 4 original headlights!! The condition of the body, paint, chrome, engine compartment, interior, underbody, etc. also confirms the mileage. The title also documents the mileage as actual. Exterior: The paint is a beautiful off-white or cream with a burgundy vinyl top. The paint and chrome are EXCELLENT….it reflects the fact it was garage kept. No bondo or paint work anywhere. The exterior looks like brand new. The only flaw worth mentioning is a small dent on the lower portion of the passenger front door, in which the paint is bubbled (see picture). It's probably been there a long time, but considering the car was kept in a heated garage, that probably helped preserve it from getting worse. If I were to keep the car, I would get it fixed. But that's up to you! There are a few minor scrapes on the bumpers but nothing which stands out. There are no rips or tears in the vinyl top, and no bubbles underneath the vinyl anywhere. The vinyl top is like brand new. There is no evidence of body repair ANYWHERE on the car. I put the car up on a lift and my mechanic was very impressed as to the condition of the undercarriage. It looks like new underneath. No rust anywhere. It appears the factory or the dealer must have undercoated the car well. The trunk is also like brand new…same with the jack and the spare tire! Absolutely amazing! Spare tire looks like it was never used. No rust under the trunk lid or in the door jambs. Only very minor rust underneath the bottom of the front doors, near the front section of the front doors, which you can only see from underneath (see pictures). Upon close inspection, you might notice the hubcaps have some curb rash where the previous owner rubbed against a few curbs, however they are still very brilliant and shiny. Even the black steel rims behind the hubcaps shine brilliantly. Overall, the exterior is in excellent condition and consistent with the mileage. You would think you were back in time and it was still 1984! Interior: The interior is also in unbelievably excellent condition, and everything is still original. Smells like brand new inside. Cigarette lighter was never used. The seats, carpet, headliner, arm rests, dashboard, door panels, and door sill plates are like brand new. There are no cracks, rips, or holes anywhere. Being a “Brougham” the seats are extra soft and pillow-like. Very comfortable. The prior owner kept the carpets well preserved through the use of the factory floor mats. The original AM/FM stereo radio still works great, however the cassette quit working a few weeks ago (however it still does play a cassette adapter for iPods, CD’s etc). The controls for the balance & fade work like new. Has tilt-wheel and remote controlled driver’s side mirror. As mentioned earlier, the original manuals are in the glove box, including the delivery sheet from the dealer and both sets of the original GM keys. The original keys look brand new. Mechanical: Most everything appears original under the hood. The previous owner installed a new battery and an alternator within the past year. I had my mechanic perform a tune up in which he replaced the spark plugs, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the coolant with fresh anti-freeze, and changed the oil. He also replaced the water pump, changed the brake rotors in the front, and performed a front-end alignment. I also asked him to inspect the belts and hoses to ensure they are in good condition. It is inspected until June 2011. This baby is ready to cruise! I have put about 800 miles on the car since I bought it. Runs very well and is good on gas. It has no leaks to speak of. Occasionally you might find a drip from underneath, but nothing significant at all. The transmission shifts immediately when placed into gear, and shifts very smooth through the gears. The A/C is currently NOT working, however it does hold a charge. It was converted to R-134 by the previous owner’s mechanic. The compressor still turns and the pressure has not leaked off since I’ve had it. It may just be an orifice filter. I’m not an A/C guy so I really don’t know for sure what is needed to blow cold air again. The other item which does not work is the cruise control. It may just be the servo, but again, I do not know what is needed to make the cruise work again. The tires passed inspection and have lots of tread but my tire guy said they are older. The tires are great for around town and occasional highway use but if you plan to drive high speeds regularly, you may want to invest $250 and buy a new set of rubber for safety’s sake. Also included with the Olds is an original 1984 shop manual. Overall: You just have to see it to believe it. It is truly amazing for a Cutlass Ciera. I thought about keeping this for a winter car, but truly the car is too nice to begin pounding through the Northeast winters, and I have too many vehicles anyway. Although I am not a dealer, mechanic or a body-man, I enjoy buying and selling older cars in my home area. I enjoy the old car hobby and have a good eye for antique automobiles, and am a member of the AACA and the Oldsmobile Club of America. 1984 Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham / Immaculate Condition / 34,200 original miles! / TIME CAPSULE
You are viewing a 1984 Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham with ONLY 34,200 ORIGINAL MILES. When’s the last time you saw an ’84 Cutlass Ciera, let alone one with such low mileage? This particular car was purchased new at Nelson Chevy-Olds in Tyrone, PA, which is about 20 miles away from my location. It comes with the original bill of sale, delivery sheet, pre-inspection checklist, Oldsmobile cassette tape, locking wire hub tools, and all the original owners manuals, including a copy of the original title from 1984. I purchased the car from the original owner who recently lost her license due to age. She kept the car in a heated garage all its life. The condition of the car is amazing. This is a very comfortable car and drives very nice. It’s powered by a 3.0 V-6 which runs well and also economical. The car still smells and feels like a new car. It even has all 4 original headlights!! The condition of the body, paint, chrome, engine compartment, interior, underbody, etc. also confirms the mileage. The title also documents the mileage as actual.
Exterior:
The paint is a beautiful off-white or cream with a burgundy vinyl top. The paint and chrome are EXCELLENT….it reflects the fact it was garage kept. No bondo or paint work anywhere. The exterior looks like brand new. The only flaw worth mentioning is a small dent on the lower portion of the passenger front door, in which the paint is bubbled (see picture). It's probably been there a long time, but considering the car was kept in a heated garage, that probably helped preserve it from getting worse. If I were to keep the car, I would get it fixed. But that's up to you! There are a few minor scrapes on the bumpers but nothing which stands out. There are no rips or tears in the vinyl top, and no bubbles underneath the vinyl anywhere. The vinyl top is like brand new. There is no evidence of body repair ANYWHERE on the car. I put the car up on a lift and my mechanic was very impressed as to the condition of the undercarriage. It looks like new underneath. No rust anywhere. It appears the factory or the dealer must have undercoated the car well. The trunk is also like brand new…same with the jack and the spare tire! Absolutely amazing! Spare tire looks like it was never used. No rust under the trunk lid or in the door jambs. Only very minor rust underneath the bottom of the front doors, near the front section of the front doors, which you can only see from underneath (see pictures). Upon close inspection, you might notice the hubcaps have some curb rash where the previous owner rubbed against a few curbs, however they are still very brilliant and shiny. Even the black steel rims behind the hubcaps shine brilliantly. Overall, the exterior is in excellent condition and consistent with the mileage. You would think you were back in time and it was still 1984!
Interior:
The interior is also in unbelievably excellent condition, and everything is still original. Smells like brand new inside. Cigarette lighter was never used. The seats, carpet, headliner, arm rests, dashboard, door panels, and door sill plates are like brand new. There are no cracks, rips, or holes anywhere. Being a “Brougham” the seats are extra soft and pillow-like. Very comfortable. The prior owner kept the carpets well preserved through the use of the factory floor mats. The original AM/FM stereo radio still works great, however the cassette quit working a few weeks ago (however it still does play a cassette adapter for iPods, CD’s etc). The controls for the balance & fade work like new. Has tilt-wheel and remote controlled driver’s side mirror. As mentioned earlier, the original manuals are in the glove box, including the delivery sheet from the dealer and both sets of the original GM keys. The original keys look brand new.
Mechanical:
Most everything appears original under the hood. The previous owner installed a new battery and an alternator within the past year. I had my mechanic perform a tune up in which he replaced the spark plugs, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the coolant with fresh anti-freeze, and changed the oil. He also replaced the water pump, changed the brake rotors in the front, and performed a front-end alignment. I also asked him to inspect the belts and hoses to ensure they are in good condition. It is inspected until June 2011. This baby is ready to cruise! I have put about 800 miles on the car since I bought it. Runs very well and is good on gas. It has no leaks to speak of. Occasionally you might find a drip from underneath, but nothing significant at all. The transmission shifts immediately when placed into gear, and shifts very smooth through the gears. The A/C is currently NOT working, however it does hold a charge. It was converted to R-134 by the previous owner’s mechanic. The compressor still turns and the pressure has not leaked off since I’ve had it. It may just be an orifice filter. I’m not an A/C guy so I really don’t know for sure what is needed to blow cold air again. The other item which does not work is the cruise control. It may just be the servo, but again, I do not know what is needed to make the cruise work again. The tires passed inspection and have lots of tread but my tire guy said they are older. The tires are great for around town and occasional highway use but if you plan to drive high speeds regularly, you may want to invest $250 and buy a new set of rubber for safety’s sake. Also included with the Olds is an original 1984 shop manual.
Overall:
You just have to see it to believe it. It is truly amazing for a Cutlass Ciera. I thought about keeping this for a winter car, but truly the car is too nice to begin pounding through the Northeast winters, and I have too many vehicles anyway. Although I am not a dealer, mechanic or a body-man, I enjoy buying and selling older cars in my home area. I enjoy the old car hobby and have a good eye for antique automobiles, and am a member of the AACA and the Oldsmobile Club of America.
If you get the winning bid and are not completely satisfied upon your physical inspection, you can walk away from the vehicle, less $125 of your deposit (to pay for the cost of having to relist on eBay) without the worry of negative feedback.
