1978 GL1000 Custom Built Trike VERY DEPENDABLE - RUNS AND RIDES GREAT NO RESERVE!!!!! This trike was reborn in 2009 from a stock GL1000. This trike is particularly good for riding small children as my wife rides it with our 6-year old. He can stretch out and sleep with no fear of falling off with the passenger backrest and armrests. The trike has proved to be very dependable so far as it just completed a 1400 mile trip from Tennessee to Florida and back. Last summer it was ridden on a 1000 mile trip from Tennessee to Savannah, GA, on to Myrtle Beach and back to Tennessee. It runs and rides smooth at any speed and handles great in the curves. The rear frame section is built from 1" x 3" box tubing with a long-arm style suspension, similar to the design used on circle track stock cars. The rear end is out of a late 80's S-10 pickup and it has been shortened 6" on the right side in order for the driveshaft to run in a straight line from the transmission. A 4.11 gear was put in the rear end which really gives the trike good power when riding in the mountains. The body was hand built from sheet steel and the fenders are flared fiberglass from an older Volkswagon Beetle, as are the taillights. It also has an original Vetter fairing and windshield. The bike is currently painted purple (spray can job) with the trunk (approx. 19 1/2 x 31 1/2 inches) being in gray primer. The bodywork does need to be completed. The engine was purchased from a motorcycle salvage company and was listed as having approximately 17,000 miles on it at the time. It has since had about 7,000 miles put on it. The carbs were rebuilt by Pistol Pete (a specialist in old Goldwing carbs) in 2009 and were sent back to him for touch up and tuning earlier this year. The heads have recently had a complete valve job with new valve seals installed. A Dyna electronic ignition was also added earlier this year. A new Avon front tire and Progressive front fork springs and new fork seals were also put on earlier this year, along with all new cables, and oil just changed. ALSO INCLUDES A SPARE ENGINE IF ANY PARTS ARE EVER NEEDED IN THE FUTURE (GL1000) The trike is only being sold because we are fortunate enough to be able to replace it with a brand new trike; otherwise, we would continue to enjoy it. Other than needing some bodywork and a few other cosmetic items, the only real negative to this trike is the title. As it has some parts from a Suzuki, it is currently titled as a 1982 GS but, I would think a proper title could be obtained from one of the title services.
