Vehicle Detail
NOTE: Autocheck does not discern between GLX/LX or GT models-This is a genuine, undisputable, real GT! I have reluctantly reduced the reserve on this vehicle in hopes of ordering up a 2011 before my wife changes her mind! This is an ultra rare, triple black, 5 speed, 1983 1/2 Mustang GT Convertible with a High Output 5.0L engine and a Holley four barrell carb. Only 1001 convertibles were built in '83 (also the 1st convertible Mustangs in 10 years). There are no stats yet available to determine triple black rarity, but we do know there were only 76 produced with black exterior and black cloth interior. This data has been provided by the 1983 Mustang Gt Convertible Registry, which has also verified this vehicle appears its production list. CELEBRITY HISTORY! There are only 65,200 actual miles on this vehicle, which was ordered and owned for about 16 years by TV's MAURY POVICH and CONNIE CHUNG. When I bought the car from the second owner, he provided me with a copy of the NJ Title bearing Maury's name and address. Soon after, I hit the jackpot when I pulled the spare tire and found several artifacts including: An 1980's vintage Country Club golf bag tag bearing Maury Povich's name; some golf balls and tees; a piece of used stationary from the desk of Connie Chung when she was at NBC; the original Koon's Ford coupon book in mint condition. I wrote to Maury and he soon sent me a 1989 People Magazine featuring he and Connie on the cover. Inside the magazine is a picture of Maury and Connie actually sitting in this Mustang! Please check out the photos for verification. With the exception of a few modern updates (Pony wheels, HD radiator, CD radio, Flowmaster muffler) the vehicle is truly original. This Mustang has never been restored or even repainted, and there is no sign of rust! There is no evidence or record that this car has ever been in an accident. Actually, the worst blemishes on the car are a "golf ball sized" ding and some scratches on the trunk lid, and some other scratches and dings in the 27 year old paint. In my opinion, the car is just a fresh paint job and a few details away from being a show car winner. The original buck tag (in the grill), door jamb stickers, hood and trunk decals are still in place. In fact, there are still original factory yellow stamps that read "SPEED JUNE 29, 1983" on both the trunk and hood lids. Mechanically, the unmodified, factory original engine runs strong and the transmission/clutch shifts clean. The Nitto brand tires have plenty of life (a brand new spare is included). The wheels are 16 inch Pony wheels, but the original 14 inch TRX wheels are included with the sale (they would need cleanup/restoration after sitting for a while). Brakes are good. Carburetor is still the original Holley four barrel. This vehicle is also equipped with the z code 3.08 Traction Lok rear. Interior is in exceptional condition, with only a barely noticeable cigarette sized hole on the drivers seat and one on the rear seat. It appears that the cloth seats may be slightly faded (naturally, its a convertible), but I'm not sure this might be the original tone. The driver's side power window is slightly off-track and needs to be reset. The trunk is in great condition, and the never-used spare tire and jack are included. The power black convertible top had been replaced by the previous owner and looks and works perfectly. So, for obvious reasons (Celebrity History, Rarity, Condition, Color Combo, 5.0L engine etc.) this Mustang is an obvious collector's dream. Please do not consider bidding if your intention is to butcher this natural beauty! This vehicle is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to withdraw it from this auction at any time. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping costs and sale is final. Good luck, and please feel free to e-mail with any questions.
