Vehicle Detail

I am ready to part with my V8 RX7. It is a 1986 2nd generation with all the good stuff. Where do I start?... The engine was built by race motor builder Sambo Howton in Hueytown Alabama. It is from a low mileage 1996 Vortec 5.7 Tahoe. The block is bored .030 over, has an internally balanced Eagle 383 steel crank, Eagle H-beam rods, pump gas friendly Weisco 9.5-1 forged pistons, new Manley pump, Competition Cams 294 duration .550 lift roller cam, 1.5 to 1 Comp Cams roller rockers and pushrods, Air Gap intake, Barry Grant Speed Demon 650 cfm carb, MSD ignition and distributor, Headman ceramic coated headers, 2.5" exhaust with an X pipe section and dynomax mufflers, Bob Weir Custom Hot Rod Products SBC to LS1 bellhousing, Spec aluminum flywheel and stage 2 clutch, 2001 LS1 T56 6 speed and 4.10 rear end. The heads are the desirable 062 votec heads that were mildly ported, had the bosses milled to be able to run a big cam, and 2.02 intake valves and 1.60 exhausts in silicon bronze guides installed. Whew! That is what make is run the way it does. The engine was done right using the best stuff. It makes somewhere around 500 hp and the car weighs about 2600 lbs. That is about 1000 lbs less than a mustang or camaro. It has really nice manners when you romp on it. The AC was retained and does blow cold but needs a dash AC switch. The interior has all autometer electric gauges, american racing seats, new carpet, door panels, and headliner. The rims are mustang bullet 17" rims and good tires. I have only put around 2000 miles on it since getting it running. It has not been raced, ever... but does get to 100 in a hurry. The 6 speed has a .50 to 1 6th gear ratio that lets it turn about 2500 rpm at 80 on the interstate. It has the potential to get good gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. The paint is PPG 2005 Ford Screaming Yellow with 1970 Chevelle pattern dark grey metalic painted stripes and has four coats of clear applied. The hood scoop is from a 1969 Ford SCJ Mustang and is very effective. It turns heads everywhere it goes. It looks great, runs great, and will be a great car for any enthusist. It would be an ideal drift car for anyone wanting to get into driving sideways. Using my Dynomaster Droid app (a gps based drag racing recorder) I did get 124 mph out it on a quarter mile run, shifting at 6000 with the 650 cfm carb. It will glue you to your seat. I have a Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm carb that pulls even harder 4500 to 6500 but have not recorded times with it. The 650 has better street manners. Both carbs go with the car. I have several other parts that also go including a RX7 Turbo 2 limited slip rear end with new axles, an AFCO aluminum racing radiator and electric fan. There are tons more cool things done to make this car a reliable daily driver that will hold up to an occasional romp. It has an Optima red top battery mounted in the back of the car, Holley high volume fuel pump mounted in the tank, Holley fuel pressure regulator with a fuel pressure gauge to keep the psi at 6, rear toe eliminators to make it track straight when you turn the torque on, polyethyline bushings through the rear suspension replacing the tired rubber ones, a solid pinion snubber to keep the rear from twisting under torque, convertable RX7 front springs with a 10 lb higher compression rate in the front compensate for the added 100 lbs the V8 brought with it - giving it a level stance, new struts in the front, a JagsThatRun corvette radiator kit for the FC RX7 and a FlexLite Black Majic fan with a thermostat controller, a tilt steering column (thought it would give me more leg room), and another few dozen modifications that complete the car. I totalled my receipts for this project at over $23,000. I know I will never recoup the amount invested so the reserve is a very reasonable $7500 (everyone always asks what the reserve is). I have much more than that in the engine alone. The powertrain from this car would be perfect in any resto-rod. I have a web page with a build up set of pictures showing it come together. See http://www.foprangeinc.com/rx7_project_car.htm for the pics and a video where you can hear it run. I am a ASE certified Master Auto Technician and built this RX7 as a hobby/project to keep me busy. It took 14 months to complete and has been running for a few years with no real problems. It needs a few trim peices inside to be 100% done. The pictures tell all. It is a really cool one of a kind car. It has been voted best built car of the month on v8rx7.com and was featured on Holley's web site. What is needs... The radio in it is original and sounds like crap. I prefer the music the exhaust makes. During the time I have driven it, it has sustained a dink or two in the paint but the body is dent free. The interior needs a pair of A-Pillar mouldings. I have seen them from time to time here on Ebay but have not been lucky enought to win an auction for a pair yet. There is no spare tire or jack. I would not be afraid to drive it any distance but have only driven it around town. It has been driven long enough, just over 2000 miles, to have been shaken down. When backing up, you need to keep your hand on the shifter... its a bent reverse shift fork. It works fine if you keep a finger on the shifter. I got the trans here on ebay and inherited the problem. There are no other problems with the trans and I naturally have my hand on the shifter when backing up anyway. It is one of those things that are not a big deal to fix but was not a big enough problem for me to fix it. You will need a vehicle with room for the extra parts that go with the car. If the bid goes over $8000, I will throw in a new in the box Sony CDX-GT500 am/fm/cd w/remote stereo reciever and a RX7 installation kit. My wife gave it to me for the car as a christmas present but I never got around to installing it. Contact me at my cell, 205-966-2137, and I will be happy to answer any questions. Test drives are reserved for serious buyers only. I have hundreds of hours in building it and don't need tire kickers thrashing it. I will be happy to take any interested local bidders for a ride in it.
