Vehicle Detail
1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer 2-Door Hardtop Up for sale is a 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer. It is a 2-Door hardtop with the original P318 V8 (Poly 318 aka wideblock) with a 2-bbl carburetor, 3-speed pushbutton automatic Torqueflite transmission and power steering. I do not have the production figures for these cars but do know that there were not that many of them produced. The Dart was first introduced in 1960 and was offered in three different models, the Seneca, the Pioneer and the Phoenix. The one for sale here is the Pioneer which was considered the mid-range model. It is the very desirable 2-door hardtop model. I have had this car for approximately 4 years now and it has been one of my daily drivers for most of this time. This Pioneer drives nicely but needs a few things. The brakes have gotten a little soft over the past few months. I have not checked them so I do not know what may be wrong. I do not see any leaks. They may just need to be bled. Also, I believe the transmission shifting linkage needs some adjustment. Currently, when you turn the key to start the car, you have to press down on the gas pedal a little so the starter will engage. These cars did not have a park gear in the transmission so there is some kind of direct link to the starter engaging to the positioning of the shifter lever on the transmission. It was probably some kind of neutral safety device. Anyways, the linkage must have come out of adjustment because when you turn the key nothing happens until you press down on the gas pedal slightly and then the starter engages and the car starts. You must also use the parking brake when you park the car since there is no park gear. There is actually a parking brake drum on the tail shaft of the transmission. The parking brake works great and was completely refurbished with new shoes and springs. As I said, this car is a daily driver so it is obviously not a show car. It needs cosmetic work both inside and out. The person I bought the car from fancied himself some kind of amateur body man and it is starting to show. There are rust spots starting to pop out in various areas of the car. I have tried to capture most of them in the pictures. I have not done any kind of body work to this car since I have owned it. The previous owner had all of the floors replaced and did body work around the car and had the car painted. The floors, including the trunk floor, are extremely solid and have no issues at all. The under side of the car has also been completely undercoated. The current color is not the original color. I believe the original color was some sort of darker green with a white top. There is rust in the fender areas, under the headlights where the metal has been removed, in the front of the hood and the right rear tire area under the moulding and on the fender under the right rear taillight. The interior is ok but also needs cosmetic work. The headliner panels were removed and replaced with some kind of felt material. I still have the original headliner panels and brackets that go with the car. The door panels and arm rests are all there but could also use refurbishment. I believe the seats to be original. The color of the interior is silver, black and white. The sunvisors need to be replaced. The drivers sunvisor is there but rough and the passenger sunvisor is in the trunk. Most of the exterior chrome and stainless trim is present and in good condition. If it is not on the car, I have it in a box and it will go with the car. I have the rear window stainless but the bottom piece is rough and should be replaced. I also have the front splash panel which bolts under the grill. I had taken it off but never put it back. I may install it before I sell the car. The engine is in very good condition and runs strong. I had brand new dual exhaust installed about a year or so ago from the exhaust manifolds all the way back to the tail pipes. It is all new with nice sounding cherry bomb turbo mufflers. New exhaust gaskets were also installed to repair the leak at one of the manifolds. The car sounds very nice. The transmission shifts nicely with no slippage. It is a very strong running and fast car. I took the radiator out and had it dipped and flushed and the top polished to bring out the brass. All electrics on the car work except for the reverse lights. I have never tried to fix them. I have been told that adjusting the transmission linkage may fix the reverse light problem. Everything else works fine. Headlights and bright lights, turn signals, brake lights, all guages, horn, interior lights, dash lights and tag light all work fine. The VIN# is 5206130473 which translates this way: 5 means 8 cylinder, 2 means Pioneer, 0 means 1960, 6 means assembled in Newark, DE and then 130473 being the production number. The odometer currently reads 58089. If I were to guess, this car probably has 158089 miles on it but I am not 100% sure. No guarantees made regarding mileage. I am selling the car with a current registration and a bill of sale. The State of Georgia does not issue titles for cars 1984 and older. I have a valid, current motor vehicle registration for this car through the State of Georgia and the County of Bibb. I have priced the car fairly for what it is and considering its condition. People who know these cars know that completely restored 2-door hardtops can bring upwards of 30k and unrestored originals with no major issues can run close to 20k. I will also consider any and all reasonable offers. This is still a good, strong running solid car and is not a parts car. It turns a lot of heads when I drive it down the road. This is a great car and a good candidate for a complete restoration. This vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is. I have tried to describe the vehicle as best as I can and have posted pictures showing some, but not all of the imperfections of this car. Remember, this is not a show car but a car that sees road dirt quite often. I would be happy to e-mail additional pictures to any seriously interested parties. The winning buyer must make all arrangements to have the vehicle shipped and delivered to its final destination. The seller is not responsible for the shipping of this vehicle. However, I will be happy to cooperate with the buyer and have vehicle ready to be picked up by buyer's shipping agent. This vehicle is located in Macon, Georgia in the zip code of 31210.
