Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on an absolutely gorgeous 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I will give an exhaustive description of the Jeep to answer all questions I would want answered if I were considering buying a vehicle perhaps sight unseen. Who am I? I am a ASE certified master technician who specializes in German cars. I partially own and operate a well known import shop, which specializes in German cars--specifically BMW and Mercedes. I have degree in electrical engineering and over 20 years experience as a master technician. Prior to working at my current shop, I worked for BMW of North America as an electrical engineer/consultant, with a focus on straightening out some of the electrical faults in E39 BMWs. I am a meticulous mechanic and have several enthusiast customers that only trust me to work on everything from their BMWs to Maseratis. Background: For years I have been in love with the classic Grand Wagoneer. I have always wanted to find a rust free one with low mileage and completely restore it. I took a pass on several local cars because most had issues with minor surface rust, and I wanted one that was 100% completely rust free...inside, out, and underneath. You have to be very careful with these examples because they are prone to corrosion and rust given that the drain systems were poorly designed. I even flew down to Texas and looked at the "Wagonmaster" examples, but their idea of restoration and mine are two totally different things. I took a pass and kept my search alive. I found this one down south, and it had low mileage and was 100% rust free, so I bought it. It was the nicest starting example I had ever found. I drove it back to Denver 2 years ago and have been slowly attending to its every detail ever since. I will regail the entire restoration in the thread below: Why am I selling now? The light of my life (my beautiful daughter Lily) has gotten into a very exclusive school, and I am going to make sure from my end that she gets to go. As such, I am selling some of my toys to make sure her tuition is covered. So my wagoneer, my M5, and my Alfa Romeo all must go, and this is the first one up for sale. Body: If you are a wagoneer enthusiast, you know that their clear coats on these vehicles were defective between 1983-1991, so they all failed. It is very rare to see a wagoneeer where the clear coat isnt either paper thin and shineless or completely peeling off. This Wagoneer was no different. The first thing I did when I bought it was completely strip it down to a shell and tow it over to a local autobody shop we work with and have it completely repained with PPG paint--much nicer than anything that was put on any car 21 years ago. The result stops traffic. There isnt a single ding, dent, or scratch anywhere on the car. Since being painted, it has never been in a automated car wash. It gets washed by hand, with only Griots detergents and products and then gets dried with microfiber towel in my garage out of the sun. It gets clayed, polished, and waxed bi-annually, again using Griots products. The exterior is beyond anything you will see at Wagonmaster! The mechanical: If you are an enthusiast, you also know these engines from the factory were tweaky and weak. I therefore decided to start over, using 2009 technology. I pulled the entire engine and personally rebuilt the entire thing! The engine is therefore brand new with only 1000 miles on the rebuild. Along the way, I also rebuilt the carb, I serviced and resealed the transmission, changed all fluids, complete front brakes rebuilt--rotors, pads, etc, back brakes were also done, new shoes, new wheel cylinders, new hardware, rear differential serviced, transfer case was serviced, brand new shocks all around, brand new tires (200 miles on them), new catalytic converter, new muffler, serviced AC (blows ice cold), all new window regulators, brand new back window mechanism, new speakers, and complete tune up. You name it--I did it to this wagoneeer the right way. Nobody will ever work on your car the way you work on your personal car. It's just a fact. Electrical: everything works as it should. All windows go up and down with a flick of the finger, including the back window. The back window took me one week to make perfect!! I re-engineered the whole thing. Electric seats work. Cruise control works. You name it. Everything works the way it did in 1989. Windows: perfect. all original and not a chip, crack, or imperfection on any of it--and there are lots of windows! I didnt tint the car because I think it looks more classic un-tinted. Tires: Brand new white walls. They literally have 200 miles on them. Interior: The back seats are perfect and have barely ever been sat in. The drivers seat is an 8/10 and shows some age appropriate cracking. The passenger front seat is a 9/10, also showing some wear. The steering wheel leather is worn, which is why I covered it with an aftermarket cover. I dont like the cover at all--so if I were keeping this Wagoneer, I would reupolster the leather on the steering wheel. The arm rest between the drivers and passenger seats is a 5/10--it is also worn from arm sweat. The carpets are perfect!!! I love the OEM shag and you cant find it anymore, so that was a must to find one with excellent carpet. The door panels are all perfect. The dash is crack free as can be seen in pictures. Any rust issues? Not one spec of rust on a single bolt of this car. I re-engineered all the drains mechanisms so this thing should never rust. Would it make a trip across the country? Absolutuely! Do I have the title? Yes Can I call you? You bet. My cell phone is 303-807-1863 Well that is all I can think of. Somebody is going to get an amazing vehicle for a fraction of what I have into it, never mind what it would have cost if you had to pay a master tech to do what I did. You know the old saying...one man's dream, another man's bargain. Good luck--vehicle is sold at no reserve!!
