* * * 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie * * * Excellent condition with 55K original miles Oregon car from new with one family ownership Spectacular original interior Up for bids is this fantastic survivor car, a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Galaxie.  Garaged from day one, this car was bought new in Portland and has been in the care of one family from new.  All original with just 55,300 miles, this car has been incredibly well preserved.  1959 was the first year for the Galaxie, most of the ones you see on eBay are post coupes, this is the rare hardtop version. The car has had one repaint in its original color of Colonial White.  The paint quality is very good, with nice shine and luster.  A few small flaws separate it from being true show quality but it's a good fit for what this car is all about:  being driven and enjoyed.  The body on this Galaxie is excellent, these big body panels are straight and true, panel fit is good throughout.  Tires are bias ply wide whites with lots of tread, they have a little bit of flat spot from sitting but have gotten better in the time I'm been driving it.  Another 100 miles or so should smooth out their ride. The trim work and bumpers on this Galaxie will hold up to close scrutiny, they are excellent.  Bumpers have the rare, optional over-riders.  Lights and signals all work correctly and all lenses look like new. All of the glass on the car is in fantastic condtion, even the windshield, which is original to the car.  The chromed window frames are excellent, with no pitting or hazing.  All of the car's weatherstripping is original and still in good shape.  Giant trunk holds 4 golf bags with ease. The interior is really incredible, it attests to the care that this car was given.  All original, it's about as close as you can get to having a 51 year old "new car". Seats, carpet, and sills are all fantastic, even the door jambs are clean. Every component here is working correctly - signals, gauges, horn, wipers - even the clock works. Heater and fan work well, radio works, CB works.  Fresh air ventilation sliders move freely.  The car hasn't been smoked in, all ashtrays are clean and unused. My vote for one of the best door panel designs of the 50s.... Headliner is original and in excellent shape.  Underdash area mirrors the same level of preservation found everywhere else. The 332 "Thunderbird Special" V8 starts at the flick of the key and runs like a peach.  This is a nice driving car, you will be impressed with how tight and solid it feels running down the road.  No squeaks or rattles, you can tell you're driving a low mile car.  The motor has plenty of power and runs very smoothly with no smoke or issues.  Not a leaker either.  The Cruise-O-Matic transmission shifts smoothly, brakes are good, this is a car that's easy to get along with. The car has been maintained as needed, recent work includes a new water pump and full tuneup. The undercarriage shows no evidence of accident damage or rust repair, this car is about as solid and original as they come. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
