Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 Last of the Classic Porsche 911s is the 1973 and ½ Porsche 911T C.I.S. Widely regarded as the finest of all the early 911s, few were made, and even fewer survive. As rare and desirable as the C.I.S. “light weight” 911 is, try and find a pampered rust-free, one registered owner coupe with 93,443 miles and original paint! Introduced to the public as the successor to the legendary Type 356, Ferry Porsche's Type 911 has become the paragon of the purist's sports car. Manufactured in its original, unadulterated version for 10 years while being steadily refined, the 1973 model would mark the end of the Classic 911-era. Well, almost. Interestingly, shortly before the DOT mandated the installation of unsightly railroad-tie type bumpers to comply with US safety regulations and the EPA required rather ill-conceived emissions equipment for the 1974 model year, there were a few special 911s built, commonly referred to as the "seventy-three-and-a-half" 911s. The '73 and ½ 911T is so special because it is the only classic-era 911 to feature the original “light weight” body style and the induction system of the future, the state-of-the-art BOSCH C.I.S. (Continuous Fuel Injection System). With the power and torque increases of the 2.4-liter engine, the 1973 and ½ cars also got the newer, stronger 5-speed manual transmission, identified by its Porsche type number 915. Derived from the transmission of the Porsche 908 race-car, the 915 did away with the 901/911 transmission's “dog-leg” style first gear arrangement. Even Mark Donohue, the famous Porsche 917 pilot, asserted the superior road manners of the 1973 and ½ 911T in a test: “Plenty of power is on tap almost from idle, not just beyond 4,000 rpm as in some of the more exotic Porsche products. Be it as a driver's toy reserved for exciting weekend getaways, or as a reliable gas miser seeing everyday use.” To exercise this C.I.S., 5-speed-equipped 911 is truly a joyful experience. Manufactured in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in May of 1973, this 1973 and ½ 911T, VIN: 9113102833, is one of just 1,944 K-Jetronic-equipped (C.I.S.) Coupes built for the US market, the 911T being the sole recipient of this new technology in 1973. This one registered owner survivor sold new on August 15, 1973 at Forest Lane Porsche/Audi of Dallas, Texas for $10,250.86 per the original Purchase Receipt, which comes with the car. That invoice confirms that this car came new fitted with Air Conditioning, Tinted Glass, 5-Speed Manual Transmission, Fuchs Alloy Wheels, Radio, Stabilizer Bars and Appearance Group...and after 37 years the car remains bone stock with the exception of a few after-market upgrades to include oil-fed Carrera Chain Tensioners, a "Pop-off" Backfire Valve and a Remote Keyless Entry Security System.. Incredibly, the original 1973 Title, the original Tax Collector’s Receipt for Title Application, and Temporary Registration tag still accompany this Classic. Also included is the original Owner's Manual and the faithfully dealer-stamped Porsche Maintenance Record Book all tucked inside the characteristic red vinyl pouch with embossed Porsche emblem. Also included is the complete file of receipts from new. Even the Light Ivory paint (code #131), with few exceptions, is the original factory paint. The car is a dry-rust-free car and has never been in an accident so all body panels are original and straight and the gaps are perfect. There is the odd stone chip or nick present, but the finish is glossy and looks smooth; without any dents or scratches. A few years ago the interior was refreshed to include recovered seats and new carpeting covered with "Porsche" floor mats front and rear. At that time the windows were removed so a new headliner could be installed along with a new windshield, window gaskets and weather stripping. The lights and gauges work properly (with the exception of the clock), as does the radio, horn etc., and even the A/C blows ice-cold. The dash has the usual cracks so it has an aftermarket dash cover and the car comes with its jack, spare, and tool kit. Clean underneath as well. The floor pans, suspension pick up points, front and rear, as well as all jacking points are all solid. There's not an ounce of non-factory undercoating anywhere on these floors! Equally important, and of great significance to any experienced 911 buyer, is the condition of the car's trunk floor. Vulnerable due to its exposed location and further endangered by potentially corrosive emissions from the twin batteries mounted here, it is often damaged, rusty, or has been haphazardly repaired. Luckily, this 911 managed to stay out of harm's way for 37 years and presents itself clean in this important area as well. Almost antiseptically clean, the engine bay houses the original, low-mileage engine which starts willingly, idles smoothly, doesn't leak oil and pulls without hesitation to its 6,250 rpm red-line. This 1973 and ½ 911T Porsche offered is every Porsche aficionado's dream. Faster than expected, much more solid, agile, and maintenance-friendly than any automobile built today, this classic 911 is ready for another 37+ years of spirited fun. Not many nice, rust free 1973 and ½ 911s have been offered lately. They are bona fide "keepers" and are usually being passed on among friends or club members, like the treasured heirlooms they have become. This cherished, pampered, documented, one registered owner, straight, rust free, cosmetically and mechanically excellent survivor, featuring the desirable and stronger 915 5-speed transmission in the traditional shift pattern, air conditioning, Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, driving lights, new tires on Fuchs forged alloy wheels, stabilizer bars and appearance group ("S" trim) options, is certainly no exception. When will you find another one like it? I have attempted to present the car accurately and correctly, and inspections are encouraged. Please remember that although this car is in exceptional condition, it is 37-years old and is being sold "as is" and without warranty. Questions will be answered in a timely fashion, but I ask that you do not wait until the last minute. The car is being offered for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early or sell to the highest bidder at anytime. The winning bidder will be required to make a $1000 non-refundable deposit within 24-hours of the end of the auction (payPal is OK), and the balance must be paid within 7-days of the end of the auction. The car will not be released until all funds have cleared. It is the responsibility of the winning bidder to make arrangements for pickup/shipping, however, I agree to cooperate. Thanks for your interest and good luck.
