Vehicle Detail
Now is your chance to own one of the world’s most reliable cars—the 1995 Volvo 850. This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION. I love this car but I just got a deal on an extremely low mileage T-Bird that was just too good to pass up. If not for my new T-Bird, I’d plan to drive this Volvo for another couple of years. I’m the second owner of this car. The first owner was a surgeon in Missouri who precisely followed the recommended dealer maintenance instructions. I’ve done that, too. This is a well-maintained and well-worn car. I mostly drove this car in the Pacific Northwest—Washington and Oregon. It has a few worn out or broken things. I’ll tell you about all of them, and I’ve included pictures so you can see for yourself. Before you read more, I’ll tell you that the odometer stopped working a few years ago. I included a picture of it, but that’s not the actual miles today. The actual mileage on the car was 172,057 when the odometer stopped working. Here are the positives: Strong Volvo five-cylinder 20-valve engine sips the gas—GREAT mpg! Smooth-shifting automatic transmission works really well. Oil has been changed every two months for as long as I’ve owned it—I think I’ve owned it about eight years. I’ve also regularly added Slick 50. It doesn’t burn oil—needs none between changes, and it has no leaks, drips or seeping of any fluids. I’ve regularly flushed the transmission and the radiator and kept the right mix of antifreeze in it. Leather interior. Carpet and OEM floor mats are in good shape. Huge clean carpeted trunk. Rear seats fold down flat for extra stowing room. Includes a genuine Al Franken bumper sticker! It has a trailer hitch and wiring harness in the trunk (that’s the wire you can see in the picture.) The previous owner towed his rowboat to the lake with it. I’ve never towed anything with it. Drives steadily. No wobbles, shakes, flutters, clanks, pulls, or other suspension symptoms. Two front airbags, for driver and passenger. Back seat has three seatbelts with shoulder belts. Includes a custom GMC Truck nameplate on the back. (See the photos) Why a GMC Truck nameplate? I say “Why not?” Automatic locks—lock one with the key and they all lock. Unlock them all the same way, too. Great radio and OEM speaker system. Reading lights as shown in picture and other luxury gadgets. No rust—car has spent most of its life in states where salt isn’t used. All-season steel radial tires. All four are nearly new. Check out the photo of the penny in the tread. Recently replaced front axle, bearings, etc. All four brakes were replaced recently. Anti-lock braking system works well. Stops quickly and properly without pulling to the left or right. Really easy to drive on wet or dry pavement or in the snow. I’ve never been stuck! Clean and shiny, very comfortable ride. Here are the negatives: Retractable radio antenna broken—aerial needs replacing (radio still works fine, just won’t pick up the weaker stations.) Seat leather is cracked, drivers seat has torn seams since before I bought it, but is surprisingly comfortable anyway. Slight valve tappet click when the engine is cold. Left taillight is broken, as you can see from the picture. I’ve had it artfully bandaged with clear and red duct tape for four years and have never been pulled over. I probably should have looked for one at the junkyard but never got around to it. Need a project? There you go. Sliding sunroof stopped sliding properly so I duct-taped it shut. No leaks. Odometer stopped working a few years ago. I don’t know how many miles I’ve driven it after it broke. Speedometer works fine, though. Has stone chips in the paint on the front and some little parking lot ripples on the sides. Windshield has a crack on the right side. See picture. One of the little headlight wiper blades is broken. (Hmmm. Do you care?) Air conditioner needs refrigerant added, I guess. I’ve never lived somewhere that I wanted to use it. It blows cool but not cold. Like every car on the road, this tough little Volvo 850 is used. Every used car you look at will have a collection of “issues” that you’ll have to discover sooner or later. The advantage you get with this one is that I’ve told you, and shown you pictures, of all the “issues” that I’m aware of. This will be a great car if you need a commuting machine, if you have a teen-aged driver who needs a SAFE well-maintained car to learn in, if you want an economical boat-towing vehicle, or if you just want to own your very own Volvo. I’m auctioning this with NO RESERVE. Bid early, bid often, have fun! If you win and you’re from far away, I can pick you up at the Denver airport (DEN) and you can drive your Volvo home. (I recently moved to Denver after living a couple of years in Minnesota. That’s why you see Minnesota plates in the photos. The car and I are in Denver. The pictures were all taken here in Denver.) If you’re a serious bidder and you have a question, send an email and I’ll do my best to answer it ASAP! Dear Scammers: If you want me to ship this Volvo to Bulgaria, or you want to send me a ten thousand dollar personal check to end the auction early, don’t bother asking. This is an auction. It’s over when it’s over. High bidder wins. And I won’t ship the car anywhere. You can make the winning bid, then drive it home yourself. All the way to Bulgaria would be fine with me.
