Vehicle Detail
I was really looking for a yellow one when I started looking for an Elise. But, this Krypton Green does grab you when you see it. This car is so much fun to drive, I really hate to sell it. It’s very fast and also gets great gas mileage. Everyone looks at you in this car and most of them have big smiles on their faces. I bought the Lotus with the front clamshell crunched. I replaced it and everything that had the slightest bit of damage. No car is ever perfect but this one is pretty close. I would not hesitate to drive it across the country and back. I will describe every defect so you can bid on it in complete confidence. I will answer all questions with complete honesty. Features: 1. The Elise has the original matching hardtop. 2. I made a front splitter out of very strong ABS plastic. It protects the front fiberglass. It also improves the aerodynamics of the car. Many Elise's are damaged by small road dips when you scrape the front end. This panel covers the whole underside of the front clamshell and makes it safe to drive anywhere. 3. It has a Speedglass racing windshield from Sector 111. You can read about it here: http://www.sector111.com/track/exterior/speedglass_windscreen.cfm. I installed it with a stock surround, so it looks perfectly original, but is much stronger and lighter. You can detect a slight bit of distortion when looking trough it, but nothing that bothers you while driving. I have this type of windshield on another car. That car was been hit in the middle of the windshield by a fist-sized rock thrown up by a truck at 70 MPH. It made a loud crack like a rifle shot but bounced off leaving nothing but a small (1/2 inch) scratch. The windshield on this Lotus has never been hit by anything, but it is ready! 4. The air conditioning system has been recharged and works fine. The heater and all of the other controls are fully functioning. 5. The engine is full of fresh Mobil 1 oil and a new K&N oil filter. I took the front oil radiator out while working on the front end, so ALL of the oil was replaced. The engine and transmission are perfect with only 9,700 miles. The air filter is just too clean to replace. 6. It has brand new Hawk brake pads and stops unbelievably fast. 7. It has brand new Kumho ASX tires. I use these tires on all my cars because they give great control when driving long distances at speed. These tires should last 40,000 miles unlike the original Yokohamas that were worn out at 9,000. 8. It has the sport package wheels which are very light weight. They have been professionally repainted a slightly darker color to better contrast with the bright Krypton Green. The very firm sport package suspension has been replaced with touring package coilovers for more comfortable cruising. It eats curves unlike any other car, but doesn’t shake your teeth out while doing it. 9. It has a brand new Stebil Nautilus air horn that is EXTREMELY loud! I believe in proactively preventing accidents. 10. The rear window has been replaced with Lexan MR10 which is hard finished for scratch resistance. The Elise stock rear windows have a habit of cracking, but this one never will. The "Professional" installer got a little carried away with the glue and as you can see in picture, it's not the most attractive installation. It is immensely strong, however! It may also be bulletproof, but I have not tested that. 11. I have replaced the original alarm system with a state-of-the-art system that has a pager/remote. It will actually page you if someone sticks their hand in the open car. It also was the warning feature and gives a little chirp if someone gets too close. Unlike the original system, it does not lose its code and leave you stranded. Also, instead of a boring flashing LED on the dash, I have installed a color spectrum shifting LED on the instrument binnacle. This alarm system is fully programmable and you can change it to any settings you like. 12. I spent several hours optimizing the projector headlight alignment for the best vision at night. They work very well even at "higher" speeds. 13. I installed a connector above the license plate for the Battery Tender charger so the battery will stay charged during long periods of sitting in the garage. The tender goes with the car. 14. It has had a complete four wheel laser-guided alignment. The accident damaged the suspension arms on the right front and these have been replaced with brand new parts. The attachment points on the tub were not damaged. The car tracks straight and true at any speed you are brave enough to drive it. It handles really well around curves, very much like a Formula Ford racecar. If you love Latigo Canyon Road as much as I do, this is the car for you. 15. Every nut and bolt has been torqued to original factory specifications. 16. It was $400 worth of new Starshield protection film professionally installed on the front end and mirrors. 17. It has a brand new battery. 18. The original Blaupunkt stereo works very well for playing CD’s, but does not get very good radio reception. I will include a “Green Day” CD. 19. BODYWORK The paint work cost more than $5,000 and it is beautiful. We have not driven the car very much because we want to keep it that way. Everyone who sees this car thinks it just came off the showroom floor and they all want to ride in it. When you clean a car you, discover the defects. I found that the left side hinge panel does not fit quite right after it was repaired. It is not noticeable unless you look closely (see the picture). There is a small crack in the fiberglass bridge above the radiator and a small scratch in the rollbar cover. I took pictures of these, but they are so small you cannot see them in the pictures. The right side door hinge is a little loose and rattles over big bumps, sometimes. I removed the ugly (and useless) wheel arch lights and had the holes filled in for a much more attractive look. The paint is a four part system with primer, color, pearl and clear coat. My painter is a perfectionist and spent many hours working on this car. 20. The "Lotus" nose and wheel emblems have been replaced with custom black emblems for much better contrast with the paint color. 21. The airbags have been replaced with components from an Elise that was being converted for racing. Both airbags, the steering wheel and the controller module are in “as new” condition. The "rotary contact" for the steering wheel airbag cost $249.15. That and both seatbelts have been replaced with brand new units from Beverly Hills Lotus. The Lotus runs an automatic diagnostics check when you turn the key on and all the new safety components check out perfectly. 22. It has a "limited slip differential". 22. The carbon fiber crash structure is a box on the front of the car that absorbs impacts. The original one was not damaged very much. It just had a few cracks. I replaced it with a brand new $1,606.30 part from Beverly Hills Lotus. Every safety item on this car is perfect because I intended the car to be driven by my wife. 23. This car was owned by non-smokers and has no cigarette smell, we cannot stand that. However, with the top off you get to smell everything from the BBQ restaurant to the honeysuckle growing on the hillside. If you want to purchase a Lotus Elise that is more reliable than a new one (with the stock alarm system, no nose protection, glass windshield and rear window), this is the car for you. It is ready to run for many, many miles with no problems. If my wife could learn to drive the stick shift, it would not be for sale! A note about the salvage title: I have purchased several salvage cars. I don't buy them to sell, I buy them because I can get a much more expensive car than I can normally afford and enjoy it. I drive one to work every day. You can save a lot of money on insurance with a salvage car. I currently insure this Lotus for a set value of $25,000 and make a monthly payment less than $150. If I insured it as a used car and the payment were based on its original selling price of $55,000, the monthly payment would be much higher.
