Vehicle Detail

1971 AIR GRABBER HOOD HEMI ORANGE ROADRUNNER This is a nicely optioned 1971 Plymouth Roadrunner in its original from the factory, highly desirable, Hi-impact color of Hemi-orange. It appears to be original paint. It is a factory air grabber hood car (N96), slap stik automatic (C16), hood pins (J45) and instrument mounted hood release (J52), canopy vinyl roof (V4X) and right and left painted racing mirrors (G36-someone removed them). It also came with the over the roof strobe stripe (its faded out but you can still it when the light is just right and the running bird is still there) and taillight black out treatment (A87). I have had it for a while now but just don’t have time (or money) to finish it. It was parked in the mid 80’s with a blown engine and sat inside for the next 20 or so years. It was then sold to a guy who did nothing more than install a headliner and new vinyl top then I bought it. I sand blasted the motor compartment and then primed it with PPG DP 90 epoxy primer and painted it in the original EV2 Hemi orange with PPG DCC. It turned out nice. While it is not currently running the engine is a correct 383 magnum HP block out of a 71 GTX (not orig to that car) that ran fine when I pulled it and topped with a thermoquad off a 440. It has approx. 15,000 miles on it. The 727 transmission also worked fine but has a small chunk missing out of the very bottom of the housing where the dust shield attaches (speed bump attack?). It doesn’t have anything to do with the function only aesthetics. It needs to be welded up to look right. It has power steering and manual 10” brakes. The body on this car is outstanding. Not a rusted out hulk like a lotta cars on Ebay. The worst spot is the lower rear of the left side fender. I guess it got clogged up with leaves and rusted it out. The lower drivers side door hinge area is also weak, probably for the same reason. I have a front clip with a donor piece for the hinge area that I will throw in. There is a small hole in the front of the left side rear wheel and a similar hole in front and rear of right side rear wheel. There is no other significant rust damage anywhere that I can find. The floors, trunk floor, doors, hood and deck lid are very good pieces. I restored the hood bubble and applied the correct reflective "air grabber" decals. There is a new headliner and vinyl roof and I installed new carpet, sill plates and windshield. The lower cushions on both front seats need new upholstery but the uppers and rear seat are fine. The gauges are original and unmolested including the factory radio. The grill is also nice. The bumpers need rechroming but are straight. The rear valance is perfect but the front has a small dent on passenger side but can be easily straightened. The original fender tag, door sticker and title match the body stamp on radiator support. It aint no Satellite. All in all, a very solid and significant muscle car with a good start for someone else to finish.
