Vehicle Detail
At auction is a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible that is a great candidate for restoration and if not, used for several valuable and hard to find parts. The car was originally a 289 4bbl Holley 4 speed with console. Included is the original door tag that matches the fender tag. I do not have a title for the car, I bought it with a Bill of Sale and will sell with the same. There are lots of very hard to find original parts on this car, probably the most valuable or hard to find are the convertible top frame and the mouldings. While you can buy the frames, they sell for around $1000.00 and you would come out way to the good with this deal, and have the original to the car. There are still a lot of us old car lovers that believe original is the only way to go. To the best of my limited knowledge with convertibles, I think all the parts to the frame are here. The latches and the frame bones are sturdy. The power top cylinder, original I think, and the hoses are all intact with wiring and fittings. I believe all the wires are there and in good shape, at least they sure look that way to me. All the area where the top goes into right in front of the trunk, drain rail area?, is in very good condition, no eaten out places I have found, just surface rust. To be honest with you, the only truly seriously rusted parts are the floor and trunk pans, the rest is in what I would say is good condition, as far as rust, believe me, I have seen and repaired much worse. In the pictures what you see along the moulding strips are remnants of the old vinvy top, not rusted out places. The stainless moulding is all in what I would say is good condition for unrestored original. The 300.1 axle is on the body. The wheels are 5 lug 14inch and the tires are good condition, plenty good enough for the restoration process. The wheels are complete with the original hubcaps and also a spare. The tinted front windshield is in good condition, no chips or cracks. The dash pad is in very good condition. The steering wheel works and turns the front wheels, which you know makes loading and manuvering around a whole lot easier. There are several parts that are included but not on the car, 1/4 trim panels, hood latch assembly and horns. The door hinges are in good condition. As you can see from the pictures, the car was equipped with power steering and some of it is still there. The VIN 5F08D165929 is broken down as follows: F- Dearborn 08- 65 convertible D- 289 4bbl The door and fender tags are broken down as follows: Body 76A- Convertible Standard Interior Color X- Vintage Burgundy Trim46- White Vinyl w/Black Date 17F- June 17 DSO 36- Louisville Axle- 300.1 Trans- 4 speed manual Restoration of this car is not for the faint of heart, but once done, man what a car! Without a doubt there is a lot to do but if you only need and use the parts from the car you will be way ahead, there is no lose here for a buyer. I bought the car with the intention of restoring it but I found a little 65 coupe that was too good to pass up, so I did it instead. I know, what was I thinking, when I could have done the convertible, oh well. Of course local pickup is the very best way to go for obvious reasons, but I guess it could be transported. Either way, I will do everything reasonable to help. If you have any questions or would like to see a specific part, please feel free to ask. Thanks so much for your time and interest. On May-29-10 at 08:45:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I have lowered my reserve not because of the car but I absolutely have must free up space around here. I have my Mustang complete now and my Wife is a big Mopar lover and has her new project, plus we have a 75 TransAm we want to do. If you love these old cars you know what I am talking about, they all have so much to offer. I believe from the pictures and my description you can plainly tell if you are interested in the car. But if you need more information please just ask. If you are in the Macon, GA area I would encourage and welcome you to come see this car for yourself. I believe it is in good condition but everyone has their ideas, but I can say my standards are very high when it comes to my restorations, maybe too high sometimes. I know for a fact, with lowering my reserve, this is going to be a steal for a buyer. Thanks again for your time and interest. On May-31-10 at 20:10:53 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had several people ask where Dry Branch is in GA. Dry Branch is a suburb of Macon, which is 82 miles South of Atlanta. I-75 runs thru Macon and we are about 5 miles from the interstate. Thanks
