Vehicle Detail
1937 B.S.A. Scout "Cycle Car" or "Micro Car". DOCUMENTED 1937 BROOKLANDS "MOTORS" TEST CAR We are offering a very complete, correct and historic 1937 B.S.A. "Scout" (Cycle Car). This very car was reviewed and outlined in the July 13th, 1937 issue of "Motor" U.K. publication as the official BSA factory test car. It was built by the Birmingham Small Arms Company and it was their very last effort to produce an automobile and more then just motorcycles. Interestingly it is a four cylinder, water cooled, front wheel drive vehicle. This 1937 version had slightly larger displacement then earlier models and was the final evolution of this motoring effort. It was imported to the USA in 1976 by a Californian, living in Pasadena. We acquired the vehicle via Christie’s auction house in 2005 (in California). It is being sold complete with its original U.K. log book, various records and historical paperwork, all of its importation papers and some spares. A notarized "Bill of Sale" will convey ownership, in addtioin to its original log book, etc. It still bears its British Registration - DOC 149 license tags front and rear, which further document that it is indeed the official test car as photographed in the 1937 publication. If needed, we will register this car properly if your state requires more then what we have listed in the way of ownership documents. This process generally takes 3-4 weeks. The engine turns over but we have not tried to start it. The overall condition appears to be best described as "tattered" but essentially solid and sound. It could probably be serviced up and used pretty much as it is, or it would be an ideal candidate for restoration. It has its top bows but no fabric. It appears to have been well used as there is plenty of wear and road patina to it. It is very likeable and it definitely has a lot of character. It even has slightly upgraded (newer) Lucas higher candle power headlight inserts, more commonly seen in late forties or early fifties British cars (MG-TC, etc.). This is the factory two-seater roadster version of a "Scout". It can be viewed in Lynchburg, Virginia, by appointment only. We encourage people to ask questions and to come and see the car if possible, or perhaps send your expert to see it on your behalf. Please contact Nate Thompson to schedule an appointment or if you have any other questions- 434-509-6219, thompson.hdproductions@gmail.com. It is modestly priced with a BUY NOW and the reserve is set at a somewhat lesser figure if you prefer to take your chances and go the auction route. This qualifies to be called a tiny little car, as it is only about 80% the size of an MG-TC. We consider this vehicle to be historically significant and from an investment standpoint a bit more worthwhile, with its factory "test car" history, then the typical BSA Scout roadster. It will make for a wonderful museum display what with its very own part played in the adventures of the thirties British motoring evolution. GOOD LUCK bidding. DON'T MISS IT! Also, anyone prospective buyer that would like for us to email an actual copy of the 1937 Motor B.S.A. Scout "road test report" article, all you will need to do is ask us, via the contact information. Please supply us with your direct email address and we will happily email you back with a (scanned ) copy of this original "Brooklands" road test report, which does actually show a photograph of the car that we are offering bearing its original British registration (license plates). This is proof positve that we have the very car, not another similar example or just one like it. We hope this helps. It is an interesting and informative read. Thanks for your interest in this rare vintage sports car. *DISCLAIMER* SUBJECT TO WITHDRAWAL as this car has ads placed in Hemmings Motor News and Port War Classics. If the car is sold, or a deposit to purchase has been tendered, this auction will be ended prematurely. With special circumstances, with a substantial non-refundable deposit, we may consider giving the buyer extra time to come up with the total purchase price. This will only be considered for those who contact us in advance of the auction end and work out the details to a mutually acceptable agreement. In short, we want to sell the car, so if the buyer is reasonable we will do our best to make it easier to do business. Again, this sort of arrangement has to be worked out in advance of the auction ending. We will not accept any bids from anyone with less then 10 EBay transactions, and less then a 95% positive feedback rating. If you do have less then 10 transactions and would like to bid on the vehicle please use the "ask seller a question" link on the right hand side of the page to contact us. You need to get our permission to bid before, not after you bid. The request to bid must be made through the "ask seller a question" feature.
