Vehicle Detail
I am reluctantly selling our all-electric Chevrolet S-10. The conversion for this vehicle was done by Wayne Alexander, who is nationally recognized as having performed more electric car conversions than anyone in the country. While working on this same S-10, he was interviewed by NBC news on national TV. You can see the interview and truck being built at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGnnaGsygM4 This 1989 S-10 has his standard conversion, which includes a Warfield Warp 9 Series Wound DC 9” motor, 5 speed manual transmission (without a clutch), Curtis controller, 24 6V deep cycle lead acid batteries, 144 v system voltage, Russco SC 24-120 SO charger, a GM 1 wired belt driven alternator from the motor tail shaft (powers wipers, radio, etc), voltmeter and ammeter. It has an emergency power disconnect pull switch inside the vehicle, and a tilt bed for service of batteries. Extras placed on the vehicle at time of conversion were new heavy duty 7 ply tires, new shocks, heavy duty suspension springs, new brakes, new carpet, and new paint. I also put in several cooling fans and a 12v trickle charger for the accessory battery. Cost of just the electric conversion (without the extras above) was $11,500, not including the donor vehicle. You can see additional pictures of his conversions on his website www.ev-blue.com. He estimated the range at delivery as 50 miles which I never tested , but was likely the case. Range is of course contingent on the type, speed, and quality of driving. I used this car for daily commuting to work around 25 miles each way. It included an uphill section and 17 miles of 55 mph highway which it handled without trouble. I charged it at work and it saved me around $300/month in gasoline costs. However, for the last 1.5 years, my wife and I use this around town to run errands because of employment changes on my end. The odometer is broken since arrival from ‘ev-blue’, and this complicates estimates of mileage on the batteries and vehicle. The odometer reads 65000, which I presume is turned over from 167000 but cannot confirm that. Current range is unknown, but it still has plenty 'get up and go' in the batteries and runs great. We live in a rural area so we don't test the range. Best to take a test drive and see how much fun it is. I paid $600 to have the car delivered from Kansas to Washington state, and I can help arrange transportation for out of area buyers, but ultimately it is the buyers responsibility. Mr. Alexander addressed any questions I had ‘post-sale’ and he takes pride in his work. Nearly everything is functional, with exception of air conditioning which was inoperative since arrival, and the heater which takes a long time to warm up (again since arrival from EV blue). Perhaps that is normal for EV’s, I don’t know. Anyway, the AC can easily be returned to service per Mr. Alexander, but I have no need for AC in the pacific northwest and they generally decrease EV range. The car can charge from a standard 110 v outlet, but charges faster if 30 amp breaker is installed on the charging circuit. Please call for a test drive or for questions. Must sell due to having/insuring four other cars and a motorcycle. Interested buyers are encouraged to email questions which I am happy to answer. Thank you for looking at our ad.
