Vehicle Detail
* * * 1967 Jaguar MKII 340 3.8 * * * Rare Euro LHD 340 3.8 model Desirable 4 speed with overdrive Upgraded 'S' motor, runs and drives excellent Up for bids is this stately 1967 Jaguar MKII 340 3.8 sedan. This car is one of just 535 LHD 340's made in 1967. It was originally exported to Belgium and moved with its owners here to Portland in 2000. This car is an older restoration that has mellowed somewhat, it's not perfect but offers exceptional performance in a 4 door package with a load of style. Finished in the original shade of Indigo Blue, the car is well suited to this color. The paint quality is to driver standards, it holds a shine and shows good prep and application. It's an older repaint though, so expect to find chips, some small areas where the paint has cracked, a few light scratches, that type of thing. Overall the car looks sharp running down the road and that's what this particular Jag is all about, driving and enjoying it. All of the trim on the car is original and in good shape. The bumpers are straight, they show some tarnishing from age but no pitting. Rust-wise the car is very solid, there are 2 minor areas of bubbling at the rear passenger side wheel arch, otherwise the car shows no rust issues anywhere. Further down the page you'll see photos of the undercarriage that also reveal how solid this car is. The car has an excellent set of wires and knockoffs, they present as new. Tires are Vredestein Sprint Classics with low miles, these great tires offer a classic look and tread pattern with modern construction. Lights and signals on this car all work correctly, headlamps are the original Lucas units in great shape. All of the glass is original to the car and still nice, even the windshield. The trunk contains a wire wheeled spare on an original Michelin XVS tire. The proper tool kit is still with the car, a valuable piece that's often missing. Also included is a factory shop manual, spare parts catalogue, Dunlop tire pressure gauge case, knock off hammer, and a beautifully preserved owner's manual. The interior makes you appreciate the level of craftsmanship that went into building these cars. For me, this car is all about the subtleties - the spring loaded action of the wing window, the tiny, precise engagement of the door lock when you turn the key, the eccentric way the wipers self park. As the old adage goes, they don't make 'em like this anymore. As you can see in the photos, the interior has a nice lived in look. The leather seats show some age, kind of like the comfy chair you sit in at the club -- with a glass of scotch -- and a cigar. The wood trim has all been redone and looks great. Coco-Mats cover an all new carpet set, done in Wilton wool like the originals. The leather door panels have also been redone and look great. The car has been fitted with new English-made Britax retractable 3-point seatbelts for convenience and safety. The car has all new door piping and weatherstripping, plus a beautiful and well fitted wool headliner. Steering wheel is excellent with no cracks. Gauges all work although the tach sometimes need a light tap with your fingernail to get working. Clock is not working. The column mounted overdrive indicator lights up when it's engaged. Iconic center gauge assembly and toggles, an endless source of wonder for my 9 year old son. All of these gauges work and show good readings. Temp gauge hovers between 70 and 80c, oil pressure sets squarely at 40. Every toggle switch below works. Blaupunkt radio looks nice but isn't working. This Jag really runs and drives excellent. Starts instantly right off the button every time and runs smoothly with lots of power. This is the 220hp MKII 3.8 'S' motor, the stamp reads 7B57635-8. Shows the correct S air cleaner and dual SU carbs. The car was built as a regular 3.8, with a data plate code of 7J50716-8. The car runs down the road straight and true, it shifts excellent and brakes well. The overdrive unit works perfectly, with it engaged this car cruises at 65mph with 2500 rpm on the freeway, top speed is 125mph. The motor smokes a little but shows good compression, 150-155 on all cylinders. Recent receipts show new parts and work done on the brakes, steering, and fuel system. The car also has new U-joints and a balanced driveshaft. Full stainless exhaust from the headers back. You'll notice in the the third photo below that the front passenger side outrigger is crumpled, otherwise this undercarriage shows no sign of accident history or areas of rust repair. Floor pans are original, sills are untouched, both with no rust issues whatsoever. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
