Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a rare automobile that any one who is looking to clone a SS or just have a real neat, rare optioned Chevelle/Malibu should have to own. This a 1971 Malibu that looks to have been factory optioned with console, buckets, and cowl hood and front disc brakes. The seats and console appear to been factory installed and the cowl hood matches the original paint color and color code, with the hood pins looking to be factory installed. The only thing that doesn't scream Super Sport is the instrument cluster. If you are looking for a car you can cruise while you work on it, this is the car for you. There won't be any unpleasant surprises with this one. Let's begin with the bad parts of this automobile. The rear quarters have been patched and need to be replaced. These are the original quarters, and you might be able to get by with patch panels that go from the body-line down. The driver side rear outer wheel well also has some rot. Both front fenders have had patchwork done on the area behind the front tires. Anyone who knows anything about Chevelles knows that if this car has been used much these areas will have rot in them. The front seats have separated at the seams in a few places. The headliner is gone but all of the metal bows are still there and the original seat belts are clipped up as they should be. The master cylinder leaks, but I do have a new one to go with car. It also has a leak that seems to be coming from the rear transmission seal. The console lid has a crack in it, but the rest of it is in fair shape. Now for the good. Interior: The floorpans and trunkpan are in very good shape, especially to be the original ones. The interior pans have some surface rust and the driver front has a very small hole in it, but no rot around it. The trunkpan has a small amount of surface rust with a pinhole. There is no way I would replace any of these unless you are building a trailer-queen. The dashpad is in good condition with one small crack at the defrost vent, which is not noticeable. The speedometer, dash lights, and gas gauge all work. The backseat does not have any rips or tears and the two back panels are in good condition. The driver doorpanel is in good shape, but missing the trim where the mirror remote would go. The passenger side has a small tear in it that can be seen in the pictures. Exterior: There is NO rot around the rear window or trunk where these cars are notorious for being in bad shape. This is a factory vinyl-top car and the top is in EXCELLENT condition with no rust. All of the stainless is intact and in good shape. The bumpers are in very good shape. They aren't perfect, but are straight and shiny, again, no reason to replace these. The trunk is in great shape with no rust as well as the cowl induction hood. The undercarriage is very strong (see pictures). Running Gear: The car is a 350/350 disc brake car and the motor runs good and transmission shifts good. As mentioned earlier the mastercylinder does leak, but it still stops pretty good. It just has a soft pedal. This car is also equipped with the desirable Super Sport style wheels that are in good condition, but could use some paint. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you may have. We would NEVER intentionally misrepresent a car and do our best to convey all we know about it in the fewest words possible. As with any other 39 year old unrestored car, it is far from perfect and we would not suggest driving it a long distance. We have had Chevelles that are not near the car this one is without the options this one has that have sold for around what we want for this one. If you are looking for a great builder or one just to cruise, don't let this one pass you up. Thank you and God bless.
