Vehicle Detail
I am going to put my 86 Honda vf1000r Interceptor up for sale. I have a small collection of some nine bikes. I don't ride them all on a regular basis and I am selling this one largely due to the problems I'm having from the ethanol added fuels that are now impossible to avoid. I just did the carbs in January of this year (only the second time I've done them in 13 years) Please see the two videos of the bike running perfectly on youtube taken after the carb job. The titles are 86 vf1000r cold 6k miles and 86 vf1000r warm 6k miles The carb job was done shortly after starting to use the ethanol fuel, but I figured after all those years it was just time. Well...... At the end of April I went for a spin. The bike ran fine but I had to turn up the idle speed to prevent stalling. I now know where this is going to lead. Even though I use fuel stabilizer, all my bikes that sit for any length of time are being plagued with a vaseline like sludge forming in the carbs. All but the one I ride weekly. This Honda 1000 is my only Vfour engine bike. All the other bikes I own have relatively easy access carbs. The Honda, not so much. That is my logic for selling it... I can't dismantle it twice a year. I enjoy motorcycles and I can't tell you how much the ethanol fuel angers me. Sorry for venting, lets get to the details. I found this bike collecting dust in an open garage I drove by one day, and bought it from the original owner with all the papers, I even have some of his original purchase paperwork, including registration, dealer check off sheet, and a thank you letter from the dealership. Now legally in my name. Currently 6,388.2 miles on it. Everything on it works. I have always maintained it with coolant changes, high quality synthetic motorcycle oils/fluids, it has new brakes, new front tire, rebuilt brake and clutch master cylinders, rebuilt clutch slave cylinder, and a new lower temperature engine fan switch (recommended by Honda techs). The engine fans work great, and the factory electric fuel pump is intact and working perfectly. Now here is all the bad news that would otherwise make it a much more valuable machine. The bike has been repainted at some early point. Excellent job, very clean and shiny with all the correct factory colors and clear coated as original. There is some sun crazing/crackling in the blue on the tank. Not peeling but, noticeable. You may be able to make it out in the photos/videos. Also there are some very minor marks on the right side where the two fairing halves come together (they don't show in the pics). I can see a repair in the plastic seat cowl on the right side at the narrowest point. Again an excellent job. It is a barely visible line about 3 inches long running from the top to bottom.(perhaps the reason for the repaint?) Though the wind screen is intact and nice and shiny, there is some light sun crazing in it that is only visible from certain angles. Some black paint spots have lifted from the engine block and some silver spots from the frame (should be noticeable in the pics). I feel you could touch up the engine and frame without taking the bike apart... it never seemed bad enough to me to fix it. The original seat isn't as red as it once was (pictures), and lastly the owner could NOT find the keys. So there is a new model correct ignition switch, a rekeyed tool box (tool kit intact), And the gas tank opens with any key that fits. If you just ride this bike regularly you may never have any further problems with it, or buy it and drain all the fluids and put it on display, it's still more than nice enough for it. It is always stored inside since I've owned it and I can store it for an additional 3 weeks (21days) for you to arrange pick up. There are plenty of motorcycle shippers out there. You must choose your own and make arrangements, or pickup yourself. I will cooperate with your shipper. Deposit of $200 within 12hours of auction close, balance due within ten (10) days. Please contact me via ebay to come see the bike in Southwest Florida if you are able. Thank you for taking the time to look.
