Vehicle Detail
1954 LANCIA B-52 AURELIA COUPE - CUSTOM BY GHIA SPECTACULAR "TURIN AUTO SHOW" B-JUNIOR - ALLOY COUPE This is a wonderfully original and preserved "barn find" 1954 Lancia B-52 Aurelia coupe' with one-off alloy coachwork by Ghia. As many as three Ghia specials were built on this chassis. Although similar no two are identical. This particular one is reportedly the - 1953 Turin Auto Show stand display car for Ghia coachworks. It has "B-Junior" scripts on either sides. Presumably, this is to give credit to - Gianpalo Boano, the designer. This was the son of Mario Felice Boano, founder and owner of Ghia coachworks. This is thought to be the very first body design that "junior" created and that was actually built. In this respect, this car may be extraordinarily significant in the grand scheme of Italian post-war coach builder history. It seems likely that this design may well have inspired George Barris to do the 49-51 Mercury chopped customs in the very same time period. This car has fabulous potential. It would be easy to visualize this very car sitting on the lawn at Pebble Beach in the future. With a top notch restoration, it could also be easily imagined taking a "1st in Class" trophy there. Chassis # 1061, Engine # B21-3976. Although it obviously requires a restoration, it appears correct, very complete and very sound. There is no rust in the floors and only the most minor of damage to the alloy body. Unfortunately, the car did suffer damage to its bumpers (the front taking the brunt of it) when it was imported from Europe (container damage) a few years back. The engine is out of the car and disassembled. After close inspection, the best guess is the reason for it being torn down was that the motor had probably seized while in long term storage. One or two of the pistons have gland chips, presumably from being driven out of the bores. The cylinder bores, all seem very good however with only minor scoring. The bottom end looks fine, including the bearings. The heads and the valve seats all look good. Even the correct carburetor and original air cleaner are with the car. The tail lights must have been swapped off with sixties versions, as the cars only modification. No change or damage was done to the body when they were installed. Although, sitting in the glove box and no installed, the original Aurelia horn button is with the car. The original interior is very intact and well preserved. The floor mats and carpets are original and intact. The dash is beautiful and all of the instruments appear to be in superb original condition. All of the cars glass is original, with the acid etched logos, without any damage and there is no evidence that any of it was ever removed from the car, since day one. There is an extra hubcap or two. The headliner is basically intact and definitely original, but it does suffer from a couple of tears. This is a very straight forward restoration project. The overall condition is - completely unmolested and is very solid order. The two body trim strips that are off the car, are fine and are with it (sitting in the trunk). Here is your opportunity to buy a worthwhile project car that you can be confident that once restored all of the important concours will be fighting to have shown at their events. A spectacular find! The car is sold with a valid US title. We also have copies of its former Italian ownership papers. Contact us with your questions.
